they used cider vinegar and a few drops of detergent then covered all in cling film and peirced a few holes in the cling film so as the flies get in and drown.....must try it myself....

It was 4 ounces of cider vinegar - but you can use any sweet vinegar like white wine vinegar, & a couple of drops of detergent, in a jam jar with cling film over the top & a few slits in it. The flies are attracted to it & drown (allegedly). Will try that myself too Wink

Yes i might give it a go. There seems to be a lot of flies round at the moment. I was thinking I could put a couple of jars out next to my rabbits runs in the garden to prevent the flies bothering them.

I managed to catch 1 weeny teeny fly in my jam jar outside. Maybe it is only effective in an enclosed space ie indoors.

Hi everyone
Thank you all I will give it a go as the flies are driving me mad and the fly spray is getting down everyones throats I have spent a fortune on the stuff, I'll just have to buy a jar of jam and eat that first Smile

Don't think it specifically has to be a jam jar, any clean empty jar will do Smile

I have left out a glass of red wine overnight on the counter, and in the morning, tons of fruit flies.

I found the best way of killing flies; short of whacking them with a tennis bat is to spray them with 'Turtle Wax Clear Vue Glass Clean'... not only do the nasty flies come up shiny and bright, but they drop off the wondow dead and bounce on the ledge! Big Grin
