I prefer them face down too but it's up to each person, whatever suits you, there's really no wrong or right way.

My dad likes to keep his facing down whereas i like mine facing up so when i do his washing-up for him, i can't resist putting them all 'the right way up!' just to wind him up! Seriously though, i think as long as they're clean, who cares how you store them!

The argument against rim down is that any grime on your cupboard shelf gets transfered to the rim of the mug and that the air inside can go stale and taint the mugs (like leaving an empty tin with the lid on).

Agree to the 'rim' bit, it's face up for me.

I always have mine face down as this stops dust etc getting into them. Happy new year to everyone

I must be honest here, first of all i keep mine standing upright, Inside the cupboards should be immaculately clean therefore no grim to transfer on to rims, and if there is any type of crawlies in the cupboard then there is something badly wrong. I once used a mug tree but after finding a fly in a mug one day the mug tree went in the bin and the mugs went behind closed doors. But there is no right or wrong way its just individual taste.
