Hello, I am urgently appealing for help, I have just moved into a new house and there is a very heavy buildup of limescale in the toilet, I did read about borax and vinegar, but can someone give me instructions on what to do with it.

Make a thick paste and spread it over the area and leave for a while before rinsing off. Wear gloves as the borax is corrosive.

I would also go out a buy a new toilet seat and a white one at that. As well as teresam advice I would buy those Tesco's blue toilet tablets, pop one in the cistern and it should keep limescale at bay.

Be warned about in cistern blockes.

If you have high water presure some of them foam up when the tank fill and overflow. it happened to us 3 days affter we put one in. lovely blue stains on the floor now. Eek

Ther is an easy cur wher the water enters the tank attach a piece of hose pipe so it just touches the bottom of the tank. this cuts down on the turbulance of the water and also the noise.

What about if the limescale is below the water level?

I have the same problem Dallas, managed to get rid of it around the top of the loo by using white vinegar & also cleaning crystals but not sure about right at the bottom of the loo.

Eww, what a nice subject (not)!

There are tablets you can put into the 'under water' bit overnight, i think they're from Jeyes. they'll break up the layer into pieces and you can lift them off and flush them down. once you have done that, do it again once a month in addition to your normal cleaning.

You can also get Oust Limescale Remover and try that. I bought a 250ml bottle yesterday in Savers as I would normal use it for the iron/kettle/shower head but I notice on the bottle that it does limescale on toilets.

MR, I have a presurrized system and the water pressure is very low when it comes to flushing the toilet. But thats good to know, thx. Smile

The tough stuff was below the water line, so I flushed the toilet and kept hold of the ball cock (think thats that the floating thing is called) and then with rubber gloves sponged the remaining water out, I then put the borax and vinegar paste all around it and as far back as I could reach. I left this overnight (luckily I have 2 toilets) and then went back and scooped it all out with a wooden spoon, did have to scrape a little bit mind you. Your right it is a LOVELY!! subject. My toilet is now sparkling clean and have put one of those bleach blocks in the sistern, I also put a fizzy denture tablet in the bowl once every two weeks as well.

Good Luck
