I would like to apologise to everyone for my out burst yesterday. This is such a friendly forum, it dosn;t need someone causing unease. Biddy and i are ok. Biddy i must say is very understanding and forgiving. I know its no excuse but its more than cats, i sometimes get so angry and frustrated with myself. I was always a doer, always on the go.and when my body lets me down i go mental. ITS the old sob story why me. Anyway folks i'm truly sorry, wont happen again, forgive me.

They say we all have gifts. Gifts we sometimes dont even know we possess. I'm being very honest here, one of my gifts is i'm good at training dogs. I was never taught how to do it, i guess its just common sense. I have a little dog and she is beautiful. She was a wee rescue dog, we got her from The Dogs trust. She was three months old and had one other owner. but the woman was beating her, so apparently the husband took the wee dog back to the dogs trust for its own good. For two years we discussed getting a dog but never got around to doing anything about it. One of the things we did decide was, we would lift the carpets and put down laminate floors, as a small dog would go through the process of house training.and untill complete there would be the usual little puddle or so. I was going through a rotten time very down. and one Saturday morning mr.s woke me up and said come on, were going to Ballymena to the dogs trust. and we found Lucy. We paid £50 for her. They micro chipped her, gave her all her injections and did her wee operation as well. All their dogs are nurtured. She came with all her vetinary papers and a clean bill of health. When we got her home you could see she was afraid of woman, because of getting beat. You dont get the dog untill someone comes out and inspects your house to see if your suitable. That was DEC.22nd. And we got her, a terrible day hail and snow. What we found out later, was NO dog leaves the dogs trust from dec. untill feb. but they broke their rule and let us have her, apparently they liked us and judged us ok. I have her fully trained by word, and sound, and now just hand signals do. She is amazing, I had to win her trust because she was beaten by a woman, but i soon did. She is the most lovable little animal she even knows to stop at the edge of the pavement and wait for our signal, its ok. to cross. At 4.30 each day, i dont know how she knows but she watches for mr.s coming home from work. All animals are precious. and a big part of family life.

Sandy, that's lovely to hear, I'm so glad Lucy is in a kind and loving home at last.
I often wish I had a dog but I couldn't all the time I was working, it wouldn't have been fair leaving it on its own for most of the day, and by the time I retired I already had the two cats I have now who would have taken a very dim view of my bringing a dog into the house (I would have wanted a rescue one, house-trained, not a puppy). I did ask a vet once if he thought it could be done but he advised against it as the cats were fully grown by then, not kittens, and it would have been a very difficult situation he reckoned, especially as I have no experience of keeping a dog.
i am glad you have your little lucy. i have to admit i am terrified of dogs as when i was three years old an alsatian pup chased me in the park and stood on me. i know now he was only playing but then i didnt of course and it is a fear that has never left me even though i know he was only playing with me. mr biddys parents have a dog that is very boisterous and i am nervous round it as it has already bitten his father!!! their old dog a yello lab was so sweet and very lazy and she was nice. she seeemd to know i was nervous when i first met her and she was very gentle with me and didnt jump up or anything, just sat at my side and put her head on my knee and i didnt mind that. she died about 5 years ago but had lived to a ripe old age. it may sound silly but i think she knew i was nervous and she behaved like a lady!
Biddy i'm not surprised your afraid. This is not a nice story but i'm sure you'll understand. I hope you understand. I cant stand irrisponsible dog owners and theres plenty out there. Alsatians, are tricky. They are affected by heat. When we lived in London, one evening we were walkig through Battersea Park with the children. Gillian was in her pram and Jonnathan only 3, he was walking beside us. Two ladies came along with an alsatian dog, not on a lead. We were in the midst of a heat wave at the time.and there had been trouble with alsatian dogs. In the blink of an eye, Quicker than you could imagine the dog had its teeth round my young childs throat. Jonathan that is. It was only mr.s quick reaction saved my childs life. He kicked the dog so hard it didn't get up again. What else could he do. It was my child or the dog. God i think about it to this day. Those two ladies, and lovely they were to, when you think about it, this was their beloved pet, they were so upset about what the dog did, and told mr.s he did the right thing. How hard was that for them. I remember that summer, there was warning's and report's of alsations, behaving badly almost every day, a few children had been mauled. We learned later the dog had been put down. My child was lucky mr.s acted so very quickly, he was un hurt, but he was in hysterics. as i was . I'm surprised it didn't put him of dogs altogether, but he now has a dog called Murphy. It was a terrible, terrible incident. My hubby has a heart of gold and would never hurt any animal, but he did what he had to do to save his small son, and it had a terrible affect on him for long enough after.

That's an horrific story sandy - I'm so glad your son was okay due to mr.s reacting so quickly. When he was 3 or 4 years old my son was knocked over on the pavement by a golden retriever, and it bounded around him while he was still on the ground. The owner came over the road from his house and said the dog was only playing which he probably was, but I was frightened. My son was very upset at the time but was not affected by the incident as he has no fear of dogs now. In fact although I love dogs (especially golden retrievers), I am quite scared if I see a big dog not on a lead coming towards me. I'm okay with little dogs though.
Janni, my daughter, for whom i've baked a birthday cake today. Hates large dogs, wont pass one in the street, she is so scared. I'm wary of them myself if i see one not on a lead. Yet shes great with Lucy, Lucy is so small, Anyway Lucy is crafty and can wind anyone round her paw. Lucy is a tipical woman can bat her eye lids and get her way. If that dosn't work she will pet you with her paw. Gill has a cat called sonny and lucy and sonny curl up together. when i'm in gill's house Lucy curls up with sonny, she puts her head over sonny and her paw. Sonny snuggles into Lucy's neck. We were weary how they would be together at first so this came as a great surprise. Its lovely to see. cricky i shouldn't be here i've plenty to do.

Sandy that's so sweet about Lucy and Sonny snuggling up together! I think you said in one of your posts recently that Lucy is a little Jack Russell, didn't you? Someone who lives near us also has a female Jack Russell (she had a litter of 5 puppies last year!) - they also have a cat and it seems that they get on well together too, even though they got the cat a good while after the Jack Russell. I've been in here quite a lot today mainly because I'm not feeling too good so haven't really felt like doing much. I finally got rid of the cold/flu bug that I had last week but have now got a very sore throat (just on one side!) and a headache, as though it's tonsillitis or something. It's so annoying as I haven't had a cold for ages before this one. Hope your daughter has a lovely birthday!
Janni, sorry to hear your not feeling so good, i honestly believe its to do with the turn over of the seasons, and central heating going back on. Apart from that, the weather is so up and down, its no wonder people are not well. Where mr.s works so many of them are ill with colds and flu. I've had hum dinger headache's this week, i blame it on adjusting to the heating again and thunder being around. take it easy over the weekend and rest. You always catch up again around the house. Something i learned a week or so ago, is, if you have a cold and keep active, the more active you are the more the cold virus attacks your system, i never knew that. So Janni look after yourself and get well soon. (((((hugs))))

Thanks Sandy for the hugs and get well wishes! It's the same where Mr.J works...he says quite a few people have had the cold/flu bug. I had the central heating on a week or so ago, but have switched it off at the moment as it is is so mild. I always take easy it over the weekend - never do much housework, as me and Mr.J try to do something more interesting then...any excuse to not to do the housework! I'm not sure about not being active if you have a cold. I remember once I had a cold just before Xmas but had to go out and get presents etc. It was really cold and drizzly and I was worried my cold would get worse, but in fact it improved a lot afterwards. We cooked a chicken curry tonight...I've heard that curry is good for getting rid of colds so hope it works!
Two of my sisters were bitten by an Alsatian one summer, must have been about '74 or '75 I think, my twin was bitten on her head quite badly, she still has the scar, she was off school for 6 weeks (I was sooo jealous!), & my younger sis was bitten on her back & bum! She had some time off school too, we were about 5 or 6 at the time. The dog was destroyed, & it was reported on the local TV news but we missed it as we didn't have a telly !

SAH my sore throat was just on the left side too! (must be due to us almost being twins! ). But luckily both the sore throat and the headache seem better today. Sorry to hear that you are suffering such bad headaches at the moment and I do hope that you will feel better soon. Regarding sinus problems - we went to New York for a week at the beginning of this year (flew out on New Year's Day). While we were there I got really severe pain on both sides of my head - but only after going into a warm room after being out in the cold (and it seemed to start if I bent over!). It was very cold there most of the week, and one time the pain occurred after we went up to the top of the Empire State Building at night - it was snowing up there while we were standing on the outdoor observation deck. I was really worried that the pain was something serious after it happened several times, so I had a look on the internet on the hotel computer. There I read that sinus problems can occur after flying, due to the air pressure changes. Also read that they can occur due to sudden temperature changes, like going from the cold into the warm, or vice versa. So from that I presumed that it was sinus problems causing the pain, and in fact after we got back home again it cleared up within a few days and I haven't had it since. The flight to New York was about 7 hours so I suppose it was the length of the flight that caused the sinus problems - I've done a few shorter flights and never had any trouble like that.
By the way SAH did you get to see Simply Red last night in spite of the bugs?!

Chicken soup is supposed to be good too!
I think the chicken curry worked Jenny as I feel better today! Maybe I will try the chicken soup next time, but although I like chicken I’m not so keen on chicken soup!
I was so touched by Sandys gift of love and a good home to the wee dog...i am so grateful to the the husband of the previous owner for having taken the poor wee thing back.....I understand your patience and love to have won the dogs trust again...we did the same with my sons cat that is living with us now...he could not take him to London with him and the cat is happy with us...I weighed him yeaterday and he is 13lbs..oooppps.....
Carol he must be very big! Our 13lb Birman was quite big compared to some cats but was always on the chubby side, sort of barrel shaped ....he definitely didn't have long legs, they were more on the short side! Sadly he passed away in November 2003 (aged 16) ....I still miss him a lot as he had such a friendly and funny little personality. The breeder that we got him from bred Maine Coons as well as Birmans.
my cat does not look fat really...he has a small head for a tom...long body and long legs...its when you go to lift him you realise how heavy he is....but I dont mind after all he has been through..(he was the one who was savaged by 2 dogs in january this year and it took him a week to make it home with a broken jaw amongst other injuries)he was skin and bones....
our neighbour loves mick hucknell!! he doesnt do anything for me either i have to agree! mr biddy loves simply red, i dont mind them, they have been around for a while. i still hve tapes from 1982 which i play! it's a wonder they still work and perhaps i should copy them sometime.
Originally posted by SAH: Janni - now coughing worse than ever, VERY strange, the exact time the headache went, the coughing started. I'm SO tired and I'm sure that I'm keeping everyone else awake at night (we have 2 flats below us!)TOther half has gone away for 2 nights so at least he should get some decent sleep - he's been sleeping on the sofa bed, to be honest he could sleep on a clothes line, only wish I could. Really glad you're feeling better! In answer to your question, yes we did get to see Simply Red - they were very good although I don't think they gave good value for money as everyone else we have seen in concert performed for longer. Other half had always wanted to see them and he says he's pleased that he has but wouldn't go to see them again. As for me - I can't for the life of me understand why women scream at Mick Hucknel - is it me or what?!
Thanks SAH, I'm sorry to hear you are still coughing, it gets you down when it keeps hanging around like that...but at least your headache has gone. Yesterday my throat felt a bit funny again and it felt as though I was getting a bit "chesty", but it seems okay again today. Seems to come and go. Glad you still got to go and see Simply Red in spite of the bugs. As I mentioned before we have a DVD of them and I quite like some of the songs, especially "Holding Back The Years". I'm quite envious of you getting to go to all those concerts, because as I said before Mr.J doesn't enjoy going to things like that these days, although we used to go to concerts and theatre.
