Have you never seen You've Been Framed; it's obvious that if you leave a kid with pens or paint that they will either colour themselves or their surroundings... I'd put this one down to poor leadership!

Very hard to shift, if it's a new stain try flushing the mark with water, when dry treat with methylated spoirits or felt-pen stain remover or soak in bucket of warm water for several hours with 2-4 tablespoons ammonia Alternatively loosen the stain by rubbing with glycerine, then wash as normal. Sponge persistent stains with white spirit. Don't know if these will work on your rug., you might be better off taking it to a specialist cleaner - good luck.

Thanks fatbird. I rubbed with glycerine cos I had some in cupboard and that loosened it. Left it for a while then blotted with white spirit and it has come up a treat. Marks are lightly visible but will continue now with white spirit once a week until hopefully marks disappear. Felt tips are banned in my house forever.
