Are there any products out there that i can use to deter flies from coming indoors? With this lovely weather I have the doors and windows open, but I just seem to be getting so many flies coming in. I wouldn't really want flypaper strung up but wondered if there was anything you can spray around the doors and windows? The annoying ones are the little ones that seem to love hovering in circles under the light fitting!!

A green tip is to put sprigs of elder, lavender, mint, pennyroyal, rue or southernwood in vases, or hang them up to keep flies away. Rub the leaves frequently so that the smell is released.

Meanwhile keep all food covered. If you use a bin make sure the lid fits tightly and wipe down surfaces with a clean cloth before food preparation.

CQ forever!

I wait for the big flies to fly into an open part of the room, and then I whack them with my tennis racket. Smile

Why are flies so stupid? They fly in through a wide open door, then just crawl around the window trying to get out, why can't they go out by the door? Stupid creatures. Roll Eyes

I hate flies so much, filthy things. Used to keep my mugs on a mug tree untill one day noticed a fly crawling all over them. Now keep them behind closed doors. And I've been using that new spray, Bugs Away, just to be on the safe side. Its a great spray. and because its oderless can be used where food is stored. Wink

go to a camping shop and get some fly netting that you use to repair awnings and tents, then you need some velcro. Cut to the size of your opening bits on the windows and stick the soft part of the velcro to the frame, then sow the rough part to the netting. vuwellar(sp) fly screens.

One of the most fun ways to kill flys is to flick fairly big rubber bands at them. Smile

Please WT, how big are the flies where you live? Surely even the biggest blue bottle would simply fly straight through the holes in the racket.

I've been having a go at it and it's brilliant! As yet the flies have been completly dead after one swipe, they usually break into about 3 parts! The only thing is you have to coax the flies off the window and into the open room first. Big Grin

Sorry Natnee, only seeing your post now. There plastic containers with dry fly killer inset, you raise up the cover of the container and expose how much you want., bit like air freshners. But no smell or anything, very effective, I use them every year. get them in Tesco, well any were really.

I bought a fly repellant thing the other day, don't think it's a vapona but something similar. It worked wonders yesterday, no flies came in through patio doors where the thing was. (i think one came into kitchen but just 1!) However, it seemed to attract HUGE bumble bees! About 3 made their way in yesterday!!! They're ok though cos all they want to do is get out again and they don't come flying around everywhere!!

No i don't kill anything that comes in, encourage them out. Even when a wasp comes in I encourage it out, from as far away as possible, as I am scared silly of them. Bees are fine, in fact I have a lovely leaf cutter bee which is making it's home in a plant bag which is hanging on my fence. Every day I see it fly in clutching a piece of leaf which it will use to line 'cells' in the soil in which it will lay it's eggs.

I'm tortured with wasps coming into my bathroom. must be a nest out there somewhere. I hate wasps they can sting repeatedly. A wasp once got caught on my tights, it stung repeatedly on my leg. Couldn't get the devil of. But its not funny, while on the loo, and one starts buzzing around. Frown Not a pretty sight to see someone run with their knickers round their ankles. Big Grin Big Grin

I'm afraid of wasps, so cruel i know, but i grab a towel and knock them for six. But the bees, theres so many old stories connected with bees. Its said, if theres a death in the family you should tell the bees. Dont ask me why, haven't got a clue. I have MS, and when stung with the wasp so many times, I was really bad with the Ms, and the doctors said it was the wasp stings. Eek

These dam flies around here must be immune to the repellent already now as they are still coming in! Nevermind it's quite a nice citrus smell so it makes the room smell nice!

Sandy - having a wasp stuck in clothing is my idea of hell. It sends shivers down my back just thinking of it. Skull
