My cat wee'd on my bed last week and it has gone through to the matress. I have tried to remove the smell with various cleaners and even cat wee deodoriser but cannot remove the smell. The bed is only a few months old so do not want to throw it awat. It cost £700 and is one of these matresses with a foam top layer to it, so are unable to turn it over

Any suggestions on how to remove the smell

Bicarbonate of soda is one of the few things that will neutralise urine smells or vinegar but it depends how deep the urine has gone ,might be better hiring a steam cleaner and trying that ,then letting it dry out fully.

Tried Bicarbonate of Soda and it didn't work. Any other ideas?

I don't really want to go down the root of steam cleaning as I think that it will push the smell further into the matress.

Try Bissell Pet Stain remover, I've heard that's good.

You have my sympathy. It's the worst smell ever and such a curse to get rid of. Some advice I was given for the same thing was to wash the area as best I could with a solution of biological washing powder and water, and then to dab on surgical spirit. Apparently this removes all traces of the scent and they wont mark it again. Has worked for me. Good luck Smile

Kitty might be trying to tell you something. My cat once did the same thing, while I was in the bed! After screaming, hopping out of bed, and quickly stripping the bedding off, I went to inspect her litter tray. It was overflowing (my son is supposed to scoop it out every day, but "forgot" for a few days while I was out of town). Luckily, kitty only peed on my duvet, which I was able to wash and deodorize.

My son got dressed down for not cleaning the tray. My husband got dressed down for not following up to be sure my son was doing his chores. Kitty didn't get a dressing down as she was trying to communicate with me the only way she knew how.

If the tray isn't clean to your cat's satisfaction, then the problem is easily remedied. However; if kitty pees on the bed even though the tray is clean, consider taking her to see the vet. Peeing in inappropriate places could be attributed to an infection of the urinary tract, bladder, or kidneys (if you're a cat. If you're a human, it's probably due to a combination of too many pints and a lack of home training). Your veterinarian can prescribe antibiotics to clear up the infection and advise you on making changes to kitty's diet.

Luck for you, and good health for your cat! Smile

I had the same problem with a cat on route to the vet .Who punished me by weeing on the car boot carpet .
I used my MIL 's advice and it worked .Cut a large onion in two sideways . Score the open onion with a knife to allow the juice run a little .Lie it on the stain and it will lift the smell out .I hope it works for you .

Hmm I wonder if you should take a chance and get another cat, when all is said and done everything will be as good as new! Big Grin

If someone locked me in the boot of a Car, I'd probably pee on the Carpet too!!!
Poor little moggy was probably terrified!
