i have just been told that i have an allergy to dust mites but i am always cleaning and even hoover the mattress . This is making me feel very unclean Has anyone got any useful tips on what else i can do to help my allergy
Get rid of carpets & have wood/laminate flooring put down. Dyson hoovers are allegedly the best for picking up dust mites & their faeces, although I'm sure others will disagree! Don't bother making the bed, pull the quilt/covers back to the end of the bed & let the mattress air. Hope you find some more solutions, you'll probably get loads of advice.
hiya JRO, for the bed you can get a medi-guard anti-allergy bed protector set ,from argos. it contains-for single beds -mattress protector and 1 pillow protector and for double/kingsize a mattress protector with 2 pillow protectors. all suitable for asthma and dust mite allergy suffers. it allows bedding to air freely and will not increase perpiration. you can handwash it and its fast drying . the price in argos is single-£9.35 double-£14.35
Saw an article on dust mites yesterday which said a good remedy is to make a pot of black tea, pour it into a spray bottle & spary on carpets (test the carpets first!) No idea if it works , doesn't sound likely but you never know...........
hi jro,I used to sell beds a while ago,so learnt lots of product knowledge(not being big-headed tho')if you go for mattress protectors, best get ones that are impregnated with teflon,so when you wash them(everytime you change bedding)wash it sme time as bed linen then put back on when bed airs, then it goes straight back to work on the dust-mites.hth
