I can only think watching this programme, How Clean is your House, that there are people out there who get through life by being ignorant about health and hygiene.
At one time in my life, through a babysitting agency, I spent a lot of time in other people's houses. What surprised me the most, that the dirtiest messiest people, were not the ordinary hard working class, the worst were the high class rich. They seemed to think, that they were above even keeping their homes clean. Down to earth struggling families, were much cleaner, they had cleaner fridges with healthy food, where one house I worked in which cost 1.2million they had out of date, food in a dirty fridge.
So, never judge a book by it's cover, as I am sure Kim and Aggie have experience in the many visits to people's homes.

I believe you are correct....I also discovered from working in a flower shop that the people on benifit, low paid jobs and ordinary working class people came into the shop and when they said they wanted to order flowers I asked what price they had in mind..they said what they wanted to spend and paid there and there in cash...the rich, buisness type people came in and ordered something more expensive and paid either by credit card or asked for a bill to be sent to them...then it took for ages to get the money from them....or they had 4-6weeks credit on their card before we got the money....

Anyone have another intersting story, here's another one.. My husband and I have had friends from all walks of life during our life, we were friends with one couple, very wealth, they would walk miles back to their car with bags of shopping, rather than pay 40p parking, they would search for a parking space down some side street, rather than pay the measily 40p, being in mind they were extremely wealthy. Then they would struggle back through endless streets to get back to their car with the shopping.
God... get a life I say. Smile

Silly idiots! Most rich people seem to be mean - that's probably how they get so rich! Big Grin Not that I actually know any rich people....... I can't stand Richard Branson & his stingy company after the first time we went to Florida with them, for some reason our names weren't down on the list of people to get on their coach to the airport going home, so they refused to take us, we had to get a taxi - luckily we still had some dollars left - but when my sister wrote to them all she got was a £20 Virgin voucher! Mad I will never buy anything off his company again.

FB when we went to New York for a week last year our son was supposed to be coming with us but he did not in fact get there until halfway through the week. This was because he did not have a machine-readable passport...his passport was stolen when he was on his gap year in Mexico, and the new one issued by the British Embassy there was not machine-readable. As soon as we discovered this we phoned Virgin Atlantic and they said that the passport would not be a problem if we signed an indemnity form for him when we arrived at the airport. However when we got to the airport Virgin Atlantic would not let him fly in spite of what we had been told on the telephone by them. As it was New Year's break and offices were closed he was unable to get another passport until the middle of the week. So he could not fly out to New York until then and ended up only having 3 days holiday instead of the week which had been booked and paid for. When we got back we took this up with Virgin Atlantic but they refused to give him any compensation whatsoever. Frown Sorry for long post!

I meant also to say that if Virgin Atlantic had given us the correct information in the first place when we contacted them, my son would have applied for the machine-readable passport before we went on the holiday.

That's awful Janni, it's hardly your sons fault. That's more money they've got under false pretences, couldn't you have gone to ABTA or a solicitor , you lost a sight more money than we did, and it's a long way to go just for 3 days instead of a week. You've put me off Virgin even more now - hope you had a good time in NY though.

FB yes thanks we did have a good time in NY! Smile But we didn't think it was worth taking the matter any further after we received the reply from Virgin Atlantic.
It was annoying though because when we found out about the machine-readable passport requirement on the day before we were due to fly, my son was in fact staying in London and could have went and queued up to try and obtain a new passport. However as I said above Virgin Atlantic told us that would not be necessary! Roll Eyes Mad
Apparently there had been some sort of exemption in force allowing people to fly to the USA just once without this machine readable passport but that ended the night before we were going! However the airline didn't seem to know it had ended when we contacted them so I don't know how we were supposed to know! And it was not on any information we checked on the internet either!
Glad that you had a great holiday in Florida by the way! Cool

Janni, Virgin seem to be totally useless, they just want your money without giving you the service you've paid for, like most big companies these days. Glad you had a good time in NY, would love to go there, especially at Xmas - unfortunately I'm not allowed to be off work in December, unless it's a case of at least 3 broken limbs! Roll Eyes Is it easy to get round NY? Florida was great, can't wait to go back Big Grin

Sorry to butt in about NY! FB it is very easy to get around. I went there a couple of years ago (I got married in Vegas, then we went on to NY for a few days) We used to buy a ticket for the tour buses, as basically you can jump on and off whereever you want (well at the desginated stops, but there are loads of stops) There are about 4 routes going all over manhattan, and plus you get a commentary at the same time. I think we bought a ticket that lasted a couple of days and you can use it as much as you like during that period. It's good to go on a route first and get your bearings and find out where places are, then do the hopping to visit different places!

It's a worry to hear about Virgin being a pain, as we are hoping to go back to Vegas next year for our anniversary, and Virgin are the only airline that fly directly to Vegas. Otherwise it's a case of changing at San Fran or LA.

FB we did find it easy to get around in NY (although I wouldn't like to do it on my own!). We walked a lot and went on the subway a lot. And like Natnee we also went on some bus tours around the city on the first couple of days and found out where everything was...then after that we went to see the sights on foot or by the subway. We flew to New York on New Year's Day and had one of the yellow taxi cabs from the airport to the hotel as it was getting dark when we arrived.

It sounds great, will have to start saving up! Natnee, I would use a different airline & face the stopover, would never use Virgin again. Although maybe we're just unlucky......... Roll Eyes Did the yellow cab triver talk your ears off btw Janni?

No FB he didn't say much at all and seemed a bit sullen! Big Grin Though he did mention about the lights which we saw on the top of the Empire State Building being red and green as it was the Christmas period - apparently they change the colour of the lights quite frequently.

Didn't know that Janni! People aren't allowed to go to the top of the Statue of Liberty any more are they? That's a shame, would have liked to do that if I ever got to NY. Has anyone on here done it?

We went on the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry and visited Ellis Island and the immigration museum there. However we did not stop off at Liberty Island where the Statue of Liberty is, because passes to go inside the Statue were fully booked the day we went. But as Liberty Island is just across the harbour from Ellis Island we did get a lot of photos of the Statue of Liberty as we went around the harbour on the ferry. I believe the "crown" of the Statue of Liberty is not open to visitors now, and the "torch" has not been open for many decades.

Wow Janni, that sounds great, it must be a bit weird seeing it in real life, the Statue of Liberty is massive isn't it? No idea how all but it looks enormous. Will you go back again?

FB yes the Statue of Liberty is really immense, it dwarfs everything around it. It was a bit strange seeing it in real life after seeing it only in pictures. I've just been looking at my photos of it - as I can't put them on here I might put a couple on the CQ forum just in case you wanted to see them! Big Grin We would like to go back to NY as a week was obviously nowhere long enough to see everything!

That would be great to see your pics Janni Wink I'm off in January & am thinking of a 5 day trip there - but it's expensive & don't know if Mr FB would fancy it, he won't go to Florida. How long does the flight take (roughly?)

FB I've posted a couple of pics on CQ. Smile
The flight to New York was about 7 hours. There is certainly plenty to see and do there!

Seen the photos Janni, thanks for posting them, it looks marvellous! Smile That's not bad, 7 hours, a shorter flight than I'd thought.
