First i'll start by saying, i am new to this forum. I have read on other post referring to pet urine on mattresses and hard wood floors, but nothing really about on carpets. My child decided to pee on the floor (twice that i know of) and ever since then i can not get the very strong urine smell out of his room. I have shampooed his carpet over and over, spot treated it, tried all sorts of different pet/child urine odor removers and nothing!!! I am not about to replace the carpet since we are living in an apartment. Does anyone know of ANYTHING that might work?
Spray with soda water, then sponge with warm water & few drops of ammonia - ideally asap, don't know if it will work if it's an old stain. You could try sprinking bicarbonate of soda on the area, leave as long as possible then hoover up. Hope you find something that works.
Distilled white vinegar works wonders on urine odours. Simply pour it, full strength, onto the stain and let sit for at least an hour. The vinegar will break down the bacteria which is causing the odour. After waiting, place an old towel over the dampened area and cover with something heavy (and waterproof!) for about 24 hrs. Remove the towel and allow the area to dry completely. The smell should have dissipated greatly, if not completely.
I've seen a product on QVC called Urine-Off, which they say works on old and new smells. It's available from their web-site, and if it doesn't work, you can return it within 30 days.
I work with animals so pet odors are a specialty of mine.
If you can find it, there is a product called Nature's Miracle. It is a natural enzyme product. It works by breaking down the odor causing proteins.
The key to ridding urine smell is to soak it thoroughly so the cleaner gets into the carpet padding and also any wooden or concrete subfloor. Don't blot. Allow to dry thoroughly. Sopmetimes it may take a couple of weeks to thoroughly dry out.
Also, if can locate a small hand held blacklight, you can use it to locate any urine stains you can't see. (works on any stain containing proteins)

Good luck!
That sounds very good but I would worry that the smell of vinegar would take over ,and would the smell of vinegar leave if you shampooed the carpet .
White vinegar loses its smell after a bit, it's not as potent as malt. So it would probably be ok to use, although a patch test could be done first & see how long the smell lingers for.
