My friends all reckon I wash too much, I wash for a family of 5 so 15-18 loads a week i would say is average, what are your thoughts?

Do you do a full load every time you wash SL? My sis has 6 kids & her washing machine seems to be always on, what do other people on here with the same number of family members as SL think?

I probably do about 4/5 loads a week, but there is only me and husband. Usually there's the bedding wash, a dark wash, a white wash and maybe 1 or 2 coloured washes. As for hand washing, now thats another story, sometime items that need handwashing will live in the bottom of my laundry basket for months!

Big Grin Big Grin @ natnee. I have a Hotpoint, I would do a wash every other day, Usually three loads at a time. whites, coloureds and darks.Theres just the two of us. love to see a bright white wash blowing on the line. THen the old fool behind me, his pigeons, will sometimes poop on it. Hate it, especially when its a duvet cover. Have to find a quiet corner and calm down when that happens or i would go over and ring his neck. I will do one of these days. Just keep checking the papers. Frown Frown

Shameless luver, must admit its a gooden. Have it a few years now. Its the hotpoint aquarius, with a hand wash programme. When it came out it was in white, grey, and linen colour. I got the grey as it fit in with all the stainless steel stuff and the fridge. What i really like is, if you change your mind about a programme, Even after you've started it. it has a Button to push, then sellect different programme. Or you can have extra rinses with this button. It also has different spin speeds handy for delicate things. and it has a programme for washing one item. But the thing about the hotpoint is ,Its made in the Uk, so if something went wrong theres no waiting for parts. Hotpoint used to have one problem, The brushes,,(thats what spins the drum, used to wear out quickly and need replacing,)In my last machine I bought them myself for £5 and replaced them myself. But now in the newer models, the brushers are different, and in a different part of the machine, so no longer a problem. Hope this helps.......San.

I've got a hotpoint aquarius extra. I have never noticed it has a setting called handwash. Does this mean I can put in items that can only be handwashed on this setting? Sorry i am being the usual silly me, but I always just bug everything in the machine and switch it on the same programee everytime.

I'm a bit of a catastrophe myself. Just having a cuppa coffee after dinner, with a doughnut. Didn't realise its filled with cream as well as jam. cream and jam splattered all down my front. Once was bad enough, but i did it twice. But it was one gorgeous doughnut, Big Grin All light and fluffy and the cream was fresh. lovely jubbly. You know some doughnuts you could break windows with them there so hard and heavy. Frown

I've got a Hotpoint Aquarius too, Sandy, complete with a hand wash cycle. I washed my duvet today, reckon I don't need that this weather so it can take all the time it needs to dry!

CQ forever!

Natnee you are sooooooooo like me! Big Grin When I have things to handwash the stay in my laundry basket for ages but the thing is my washing machine has a "hand wash" cycle so its not as if I have to actual hand wash them. I also have Hotpoint and I would do about 5-6 washes a week as there is only two of us aswell. Normally, a couple of dark washes and whites. Then I would do a colour wash, bedclothes (do these seperate) and a dish clothe and tea towel wash as I do them in a boil wash. I just use Tescos own brand of washing liquid and I use Comfort fabric conditioner concentrated. I would also using Vanish Oxi powder (especially for hubby's work clothes) and Glo White for my whites. Wink

Blame it on Sandy for having me fuss over my washing. Big Grin

I know, terrible fuss pot when it comes to washing. Its just, you buy nice things , keep them nice. Shouldn't be saying this but my neighbour must throw everything in the machine together. everything has an over all dull, grey colour. For example on the line, dark grey duvet cover and pillowcases, plus a white sheet, but the white sheet was a dirty grey colour. Obviously put in the machine with the duvet cover. I just cant understand that. I would have washed the sheet on its own. Cant stand bad washing. Frown Frown

I am tempted to try out my handwash cycle on the washing machine, but some of my clothes that need handwashing have sequins and beads on, which is why I guess they need handwashing, and I wouldn't want to risk them! Shin I just use tesco's own washing liquid too, It's cheaper than the brand stuff and it does the job!

Try putting the thing with sequins and beads turned inside out, in a net washing bag, that way it shouldn't get bashed about. But in anycase, the handwash cycle is really gentle - try it on something else first.

Carol, that's a good idea. I don't have a washing bag, but I've had a betterware catalogue through my door this evening so i will have a look in there for one. I bought a lovely strappy top the other day that i'm wearing now, which is white with green flowers, and beads and sequins on, I would hate to ruin it, so might have to invest in a special washing bag!

Natnee, I have just put a dress in the washing machine under the hand wash cycle. It was a dress I wore to a wedding (yes, I know that was a few weeks ago) but it has sequins and beads on it and I turned it inside out. Now that it is done I am going to have a look at it and come back with the verdict. But I have done the hand wash cycle before and all the clothes have been grand. It just does them at 25 degrees.
