hi, can anyone help me on how to clean the element on my kettle, it`s the hard plastic type of electric kettle and the element really needs a good clean, i have no idea how to clean it, please help
You can buy kettle descalers - I got mine at the local Savers but you can also get them at places like Robert Dyas or one if the larger branches of Boots that stock household items.
Thank You both i wasn`t sure if it was vinegar or lemon and was a bit wary of using them in case i got it wrong and ended up with some rather acidic tea in the future
Just found K & A's tip - add a solution of white vinegar and water, half and half. Leave to soak and rinse well. They don't say anything about boiling it, but a tip in another book I've got suggests covering the element with neat vinegar, bring to the boil, switch off and allow to cool. Empty and rinse several times. Boil the kettle at least once and pour water away before using again.
Or - add a couple of denture cleaning tablets to water and leave overnight. Wipe away in the morning with paper towels and rinse well before re-use!
