I always use Surf & Lenor, but it's up to you, if you have sensitive skin some powders aren't suitable, just keep buying different powders/conditioners till you find one you like.

Yes, tumble dryer sheets help make clothes smell nice. I wish companies would co-ordinate their fragrances though, everything has a different smell. Roll Eyes

just be carful if you have sensitive skin as I can't use most of the ones with conditioners in so do a small wash first to find out if you are!

The smell of nothing IS clean! Being "green", I steer clear of using chemicals to scent my clothing and instead use white distilled vinegar to freshen my clothes - it also works as a conditioner and leaves no lasting scent once the clothes are dry. An added problem to conditioners, besides that they pollute water supplies, is that they leave a film on clothing fibers and can actually ATTRACT MORE DIRT.

If you really want a scent to your clothing, try adding a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil to some water and pouring into the conditioner portion of your machine; lavender or lemon are both nice.

I've just used a tip about cleaning the washing machine with baking soda & white vinegar - might try the white vinegar tip next time I do a wash.

I have found that reusable tea bags filled with fresh lavendar are great in the dryer. One bag is typically good for about 4 uses, then toss the lavendar into the waste bin to freshen it. Refill the tea bag and voila!

You could probably do the same with other fragrant herbs.

Where do you get reusable tea bags? Never seen them before! You could also use little bags of muslin or other similar material, we had a lavender bush in our front garden but chopped it down as it was getting so bushy we couldn't open the gate!

I found the reusable teabags at a "health food" store. I think you might be able to purchase them online. Sometimes they are called "tisane" bags. They are made of a cheesecloth type fabric and have a drawstring at the opening.
