Hello! I get a lot of tipe from here, but this is my first time posting. I did do some searching to see if anyone had asked a similar question, but no luck. I apologize if this ends up being repetative. One of my cats peed on our futon mattress. Does anyone know what I would use to remove the smell? I thought it was a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda. But I can't seem to find any info about it. We have soaked up as much as possible with newspapers already. I just need to know what to pour on it to get rid of it now. I don't want any chemicals or anything. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Cat pee is not the best smell to have as you are trying to sleep. ew
Thank you!
PS--please if you do know what to use, be sure to tell me how much of each ingrediant so that it is effective.
HI Miss Kyle welcome...as a cat owner myself with a stray cat peeing at my door I understand the smell!!! well it is not easy to get rid of...try some neutradol carpet and odour destroyer...sprinkle on and vac off...I have the blue one and it says it removes pet odours...as well as a few other things.....you should get it at any chemist.....hope this helps a bit...............
This is a dodgy one, especially on a mattress, it's bad enough on a carpet! According to K & A, soda water helps neutralize the uric acid contained in cats' pee or a branded enzyme-digester product (they don't give the brand name though). One recommended in an American "Queen of Clean"'s book is Bissel Pet Stain and Odour Removal but I don't know whether it's available in this country. Otherwise, as Chaddy suggests, try Neutradol.
You could also try 1 pint of lukewarm water with 25 drops of either Lemon or Orange or any other citrus essential oil. The added bonus being that cats don't take kindly to citrus so it will deter also. Being an owner of 5 cats and Aromatherapist I have found essential oils work wonders for all sorts of nasty niffy problems!
