SmileI gorra problem with a smelly dishcloth Eekand I lookin' for some answers, Confused from anyone who might have the reason for it.. Smile
Ah a! It is clean. I change them often. Once Ive done the washing up, I ring the cloth out and put it (open) out on the dishdrainer to dry. Confused
Think, clean drainer, clean cloth, Frown no problem...
Till next morning, I go to rinse the cereal bowl or a mug, and the dishcloth smells Eek of dry urine. I havent got a gremlin in my house, and there are no visiting fairies, just me and my parrot, Big Grin and he's in his cage all night!
It also sometimes happens with the washing. I have a washer dryer, and sometimes when I take the washing out it hasnt dried Madthoroughly, and particularly tee-shirts, They're the worst. I put them to one side to dry properly, (opened out not screwed up and when I go to iron them, or just wear them around the house, Red Face and the smell is there again. Its not me either, Red Face me and my parrot shower daily! Big Grin
This might seem a trivial point to some, but I'm quite houseproud Smile(well I was before the parrot came along anyway, And my house isnt dirty, just a little untidy sometimes, i.e. when the parrots been out and about crunching woodsticks and lobbing them everywhere!! Wink

I'd love to read an answer from anyone who's got one!! Big Grin

Do you wash your dishcloths in the washing machine? Maybe that needs a good cleaning, run it through a hot cycle with white vinegar in the dispenser drawer (no clothes in it!) and a bit of bleach, see if that helps.

I regularly bleach my dishclothes and also wash them as hot as possible.

If damp washing takes too long to dry, it will smell. Can you put them in an airing cupboard to finish off drying?

Kim and aggie on one show took the dishcloth at the end of the days washing and steeped it water with a squirt of bleach and a drop of washing up liquid....then she said it was ready for the next day......my son rang me to ask why his work uniform smelled sour just after he had washed it and dried it and was ironing it....after trial and error i told him to change his washing detergent and he tried the liquid from Lidl..no smell uniform since...it was his washing powder that was not agreeing with the fabric in the uniform.....i think the urine smell comes from bacteria in your cloth so do wash it ih hot water or dispose of it and buy some new ones and follow the bleach/washing up liquid method......

Rinsing in bicarb of soda will help. It is a deoderiser (sp).

I dont use my discloth to actually wash up with, just to mop up water & clean round kitchen etc. I use the sponge scourers to wash up and change them every few days - this may seem wasteful and expensive but needn't be.
I use the tesco value ones - 14p for 6 Eek cant go wrong there!

With my dishcloth, after ive cleaned around the kitchen with it, i soak it in a tiny amount of bleach and some washing up liquid every day overnight. It never smells

Another tip is never to leave it out wet, as that can make it smell. Make sure it is wrung out til practically dry

I also put mine in with a white wash 1/2 a week - prolongs their life
