As promised, here is a list of titles forthcoming in the Extreme strand on FilmFour:
Still to come in June, we're showing the UK TV premiere of Infernal Affairs II, the sequel (but really prequel) to the hit Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs. The two films play together later this week, on Friday 10th June, and again across two nights on 28th/29th June.
Also this week, we're showing the full Director's Cut of the British classic Withfinder General, a film that's still shocking after almost 30 years.
Other films you may want to look out for this month are a triple-bill of 'krimis' - London-set, German-made mysteries from the early 1960s - which runs from the 14th to the 16th of June (titles are The Dead Eyes of London, The Face of the Frog and The Door with Seven Locks). Later that same week, the South Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters proves why that country is currently leading the field in Extreme cinema. Nearer the end of the month, we have a pair of strong, uncompromising works from Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci - the 5-hour masterpiece 1900 (across 2 nights - 23rd/24th June) and the transgressive La Luna (25th June).
On July 2nd, we have the UK TV premiere of the terrifying Japanese horror film Ju-on: The Grudge. You'll be able to see how it measures up to Ringu, Japan's other major horror hit of recent years, which is also playing in Extreme in July. Also that month, we''re showing Ringu director Hideo Nakata's Dark Water (the remake is soon to be in British cinemas) and the 1960s classic Carnival of Souls, a low-budget American film that shares a supernatural spirit with many of the recent Japanese ghost stories.
We'd also recommend you look out for Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ, two from Italian director Dario Argento (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage; Deep Red) and Oshima's Ai no corrida.
Looking ahead, our selection of newer upcoming Extreme titles includes the Korean sensation OldBoy; the savage French thriller Switchblade Romance (Haute tension); the intense Hungarian subway story Kontroll; and the dangerously romantic Head-On.
And for a real provocation from the past, don't miss 1981's cruising classic Taxi zum Klo, which we're hoping to show uncut on television for the very first time.
Of course, this is just a selection of FilmFour's Extreme offering. With a film every night around midnight, you're sure to be able to find plenty that's weird, wonderful, sick or strange - whatever suits your taste!
Additionally, if you have any thoughts about what you'd like to see in Extreme, do let us know. We welcome any suggestions or recommendations you may have.
