Given that RAT RACE has only recently been screened on Film 4 at the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, can I ask why today's broadcast (16 September) has been cropped to 1.78:1?
If it's an accident (like the recent cropped version of CATTLE EMPIRE), I hope you guys aren't going to make a habit of such things...
Well, it seems you guys really are going to make a habit of this! First RAT RACE, and now (18 September) THE TRUE STORY OF JESSE JAMES has been broadcast cropped to 1.78:1, after 'premiering' last week at 2.35:1. What's going on, Film 4?
Many thanks for your posts and for spotting the error on Jesse James - we are very disappointed that the 2.35 version didn't go out for the second transmission, and can only apologise for this internal error. We will make sure the next transmissions revert to the oar. There will be a separate post on Rat Race.
Still no word on the recent RAT RACE screening, despite your promise to follow-up on the previous posting?
Might I also ask why BATTLE OF BRITAIN has been screened at 1.78:1 for two days running now, despite being shown at 2.35:1 previously? Granted, the scope version was unsatisfactorily striped across the top of the screen (PLEASE stop doing this, Film 4!), but at least the full image was on display! Why the cropping this time around?
