Please show some Greta Garbo films. I would love to see some of her talkies that haven't been released on DVD: Two-Faced Woman Inspiration Susan Lennox Painted Veil Romance As You desire Me Conquest
I have seen Susan Lennox and As You Desire Me, and both are fascinating films. Weak and melodramatic as drama, but visually spellbinding as cinematic storytelling. They this atmosphere of soft and deep focus textures, light and shadow, materials and sets that seems to evoke another world entirely than the reality of very modern and adult early 30s era in which they were filmed.
I would support Film Four showing Garbo's films entirely, but they are either in the back catalogue of MGM as sold to Ted Turner, or aborbed into the modern studio's current catalogue, so the chances of availability to Film Four are sadly very scarce.
I know Warner own them and are very reluctant to release them, there are one or two though I think Film Four may have a chance of getting if they were interested. I have heard that The Joyless Streets (not owned by Warner Bros) is fully restored but no one is interested in it, though it is a silent and so far I have not seen silent films on film four, do they show silents?
