FilmFour channel are showing three of the best-known of the 'krimi' films - German adaptations of Edgar Wallace crime stories that became a genre unto themselves in the 1950s and 1960s. Not available on DVD in the UK, these three UK TV premieres in the Extreme strand represent a rare chance to sample this legendary film cycle. All three films have been newly-subtitled.
The films play on three consecutive Saturday nights, with each film repeated on the following Thursday. The line-up is as follows:
Sat 7/Thurs 12: The Dead Eyes of London (1961)
Sat 14/Thurs 19: The Face of the Frog (1959)
Sat 21/Thurs 26: The Door With Seven Locks (1962)
We hope you enjoy them. Any response to these screenings - or suggestions for further screenings - would be warmly welcomed.
Well I thought The Dead Eyes of London was a cracker and look forward to the other two. There were 32 of these movies made between 1959 and 1972a and I would welcome the others. How about The Green Archer for starters?
Kudos to F4 for unearthing and unlocking another forgotten film mausoleum for british film fans. This has been one of the strongest seasons the channel has presented in a VERY long time. Will these be airing again? I've failed to tape any of them as yet, other than the film that is showing again tonight...
Many thanks for your post and we are glad to say you can catch these again. They are playing on: Dead Eyes of London Tuesday 14th June at midnight Face of The Frog Wednesday 15th June 12.05 am Door With Seven Locks Thursday 16th June at midnight We hope you get to see them all
Fabulous. Here's hoping that you can add a few new films to the season sometime in the future...
By the way, there's a brief but interesting introduction to the krimi films and the works of Edgar Wallace over at the ever reliable Latarnia website - just follow the link below...
Any chance of Film Four showing more Edgar Wallace Krimi films? The three shown in May were excellent. Also, we've not seen the Godzilla films for several years - any chance of showing this season again in the near future?
