Really loving all them chuffin ads, can't get enough of them! Worse than CH4 and ITV1 film transmission!

I take your points on board StanleyNTL but i can more than put up with the advert breaks if it means free films.
In addition the breaks sometimes help if you need the toilet or fancy a quick brew/munch.
It begs the question that if the BBC went down the advert route would anyone complain?....I would rather not pay the BBC £100+ per year and suffer adverts.
The only other solution is to buy a DVD recorder that automatically cuts out the ad breaks and then watch them back at your leisure!

I'd love BBC to ditch their "forced subscription". I don't want to pay for their channels - I don't enjoy them. Regarding adverts on FilmFour - well, it's a free-to-air channel. I'm sure there's really no other way they could make it work out financially.

Well if you want a channel which looks like ITV1 and is propped up with a BBC quiz channel I'm sure you'd be happy with an advert funded BBC. I think a lot of people if they really understood what the impact of forcing ads on the BBC meant would rather keep the LF. Personally I'd rather have a channel which can afford the likes of Judge John Deed, Hustle, Spooks, The Street and Doctor Who than one which is in danger of falling below Channel 4 in audience share and which thinks the answer to its problems is trying to poach Big Brother and buying Friends Reunited.

Heres a novel idea - how about adverts before and after a feature film?

heres an even more novel idea feature films before and after adverts

Maybe they should appeal to Ofcom and ask them to have longer adbreaks between films (say, over 5 mins) in return for little or no adbreaks in the films themselves. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

You can get the Godfather trilogy dirt cheap on DVD; a worthy investment IMO :-)

I switched on Film Four last night and was horrified to find that the channel had become contaminated with commercials. This has utterly ruined Film Four - it is now a shadow of its former self. If they need to support the channel with advertising, then do so between movies - don't interrupt them!
Until this changes, I won't be watching Film Four again. Or any other Channel 4 programmes, for that matter!

I truly loathe and detest adverts. However, they have enabled Film4 to be broadcast for free, which is absolutely great. As for the adverts I can deal with them as I cut them out before watching each film. Takes a few minutes. Well worth the time. Well I'd rather spend time cutting out the ads than watch a film with them in.
The ads I can live with...and deal with. It's the ruddy talking over and squishing of the end credits that ruins it all for me. I really, really detest that practise. There is absolutely NO need whatsoever to talk over the credits...shutup and leave the film only until that last frame sits on the screen.
It is truly an awful practise. If it continues I really do think I'll not bother with Film4 any more. I stopped watching films on ITV4 altogether because they are just as bad, but to add insult to injury they also have a channel logo glowing like a halogen torch at the top of the screen...on my WS tele it is about 2/5 of the way into the screen from the edge. Thankfully we don't have to put up with that sort of madness on Film 4, but please, please, please SHUTUP until the film has actually finished.

I don't have a DVD recorder but am thinking of purchasing one in the near future. This ad cutting feature.. Is it built into all DVD recorders and if this particular function has a name please could you tell me as I could put it to good use. Thankyou.

The model I have, Philips DVDR3440H, using the hard drive, can go forward by 30 seconds or 5 minutes a time, and back by 10 seconds or 5 minutes a time, so you can pretty much miss out the ads altogether.

dear film 4 editor,
I am interested in the following films.
A Man of a Thousand Faces. James Cagney. Lady Sings the Blues. Diana Ross
Do you have these two films in your library? if so will you be playing these films in the future?
regards Melvyn.

Many thanks for your post - unfortunately we do not currently have rights to either of these films, but should the situation change, we will certainly let you know.

Thanks Film4 for airing The Machinist last night, it was one of the best films I've seen for a long while. Do you have plans to show it again?
