I hate to say it as a biologist, but I think the most promising research is in high-energy physics. The LHC is going to do some amasing things for our understanding of the makeup of the universe.
In addition advances in plasma physics should allow for smaller, cheaper and more effective atom smashers to be built. Imagine finding the particle responsible for mass, it would revolutionise the next 50 years of science.
However if its biology yer after, without a doubt it has to be the barcode of life project.
some fungus in my shower starting to look interseting. think it was trying to speak to me the other day and tell me to spam the fame lab forum. lateatata
i think someone should figure out how to convert all the energy people use thinking of silly replies to sometimes even sillier questions into fuel so we can lower oil costs. Now THAT would be a scientific discovery. Your question was good, heeeee but I'm just buggin'.
