From what I've read most of the ad libbing is done by Stephen Mangan and and any interview I've read with the cast shows he's the funniest. Even the reviews for Confetti are focusing on his ad libbing so I hope he sits down and creates his own project.
Here's an interesting quote
'When the first series went out, it was very much an ensemble show. This time, everyone wants to interview Greig and Rhind-Tutt. But on set it is Stephen Mangan, as the comic-grotesque Dr Guy Secretan, who emerges as the true star. With film roles in Festival and the forthcoming Confetti, it can't be long before he's up there with Coogan and Gervais.
The rest of the cast are all straight actors, but Mangan is a brilliant improv performer who pushes the script to the very limit with his constant ad-libbing. Guy may think he's a ladies man, but he's a total sexual naïf. We watch them film one toe-curling kitchen scene that culminates in Mangan ad-libbing: "Where is my blancmange in the shape of a tit?" He turns to Pile: "Sorry, was that too much?"
Later she tells me: "Stephen is a magician of words. I'd happily have every bit of invention that he comes up with. He can go one step too far, but I probably encourage that." Mangan, in turn, admits that he often phones Pile from the car after filming - and asks her why she made him do such undignified, childish things. "Because it's funny," Pile replies.
the man is a genius, he's really talented and is such a fantastic comedy actor. it's his face that does it. he really reminds me of alan partridge, he's appeared in an episode of 'im alan partridge' and he was excellent. i really hope that there is a 3rd series of green wing, if not i'd love him to team up with ricky gervais and write a comedy series.

I think they are all fantastic to be honest but I do tune in just to see what Mangan will do each week. I think Guy's character could go on in a differnt series but doubt that would ever happen. He's especially good playing unlovable (yet strangley loveable characters) which is very hard to do. I hope he doesnt rush back to the theatre and dip out of sight for a long time.
Jeez, Steve went to RADA, dahling! He's a VERY well-trained actor. But then, you have improv classes at both RADA and RSAMD so it'd be like, second nature. His wit is very much his own though.
Has anyone seen him in Chunky Monkey. The extras on the DVD have a load of adlib stuff from him as a naff french singer. Its a very strange film but has developed a bit of a cult. His real singing voice is ok - not like the bad singing he does in GW.
ohh JOHNOR i was with you until the Ricky Gervais thing...thats like out the frying pan and into the fire.
I don;t know if anybody realised around the hype by Extras was awfully trite predictable and cringely repeatitious not to mention trite (..i did it on purpose)
why would an artiste such as mangan be cursed to work in one of Gervais comedy's were saying something was "pants" or calling someone with autism a "spaza" is the height of hilarity.
Really he should star in a sitcom written by a certain D-Fender...then all would be right with the world.
I'd also like a pon...called Mr Treacle face..THEN all would be right..
Gervais is very over rated. I agree completely with D-Fender.
Mangan can do better. As said elsewhere on this forum its time for him to take a lead role and not play the sidekick or someone they bring into a film to give it a few funny lines (ie Confetti). Tamsin was able to take a lead role in Love Soup so I dont see why Steve cant carry a series.
