no it's not. really it's not!
there is so much more than just the work too. and loads of ways of meeting some really great people! eg freshers week, societies, halls, the course itself.
i wouldn't change uni life for anything. it's great and something that everyone should experience!!!

I didn't go to Uni at the UEA I wanted to put some miles between the parents and myself!
Can I just say to anyone thinking about going or who is going that it was the BEST time. Someone gave me the advice before I went that when you get there no matter how tired you might be if someone asks you in Halls or lectures fancy going here or there do it, I did and I met lots of lovely people many of which I still see and meet up with regularly, 7 years on!

i won't be in halls if i go to UEA but uni now sounds good again. i wouldn't mind meeting new friends.

Oh and for me anyway and I believe for most universities, you only need to pass the first year. It doesn't count towards your final award, so use the first year wisely my friends

uni isnt bad at all, i just get a bit lonely sometimes. if you have the choice, then deff go

enjoy it while you can had the time of my life now i have to be a proper grown up with morgages and all that

but at least your like settled, i feel like this is all crazy

enjoy it responsibility is not fun. Got to find £300 to replace the B****Y fence that fell down and smashed. Debating going back and doing my masters but not sure if they do one in green wing or jrt

Uni's fun just take a hot water bottle coz in my experience if the heating breaks in hall's they take over a week 2 fix it and its still fooking cold in november

i was reading about what you guys were saying about friends and stuff and i think it totally depends on the person. i mean i have a few good friends at home, but ive met so many cool people (and guys!) since ive come to uni! i mean, im a veggie, and i didnt know any others and now i know loads! same with tastes in music and stuff! uni's like st andrews is cool though cos theres loads of people from all over the world who come here, so its cool having english, american, swedish friends etc. i think joining society's and stuff is really good, cos you meet people with other interests and not just doing the same subjects and people from other years as well! sorry i know i go on about st andrews way too much, but its a fab place!
im sure everyhing will work out fine mel, just stick to your guns.

i know what u mean i went to an american uni and now i have a great group of friends all round the world. off to see one of my friends in may who lives in japan and then another one in san francisco. yet most of the people i went to school with annoy me cos they never got off their bums and did anything then tell me how lucky i am. They could have done it but they didn't bother. ENJOY UNI I WISH I COULD GO BACK maybe i'll do my masters

Mel if it makes you feel any better i swapped uni's when i was 19 got a plane and went to LA not knowing anyone and had the time of my life for 5 years and met all my best friends, but believe me the first night thought i'd made a massive mistake turned out to be the best thing i'd ever done

yeah, its difficult for me cos my best friend from school never went to uni, and since im not that far away from home, she wants me to come home more at the weekends, and even though i do want to see her, its like i dont want to come home, if you get me? it makes me so sad cos theres like half of us from school all at different unis and the other half isnt, and i feel bad for them missing out. people say they dont want to go to uni cos of the work, but even the work at uni is so much better and more fulfilling which you dont get if you dont experience it! wow long post!

hehe thanks for being so supportive guys! it is a great experience, i love cooking for myself and living here with all the freedoms! i reckon my problem is i thought id make good friends really quickly but looking back, ive known all my best friends since i was 11, so its hardly gonna happen over night! i just wish there were people here like you guys!!!

Mel sweeetie, don't worry – I also find it takes a while for people to really get to know me, I'm quite shy and therefore I think people think I'm a bit stuck up when they first meet me. However, I usually find that the people who take the time to get to know me are the only ones worth worrying about anyway and the friends I do have are really good friends.

You are probably being over sensitive – people probably like you more than you think they do and the housing problems are probably not personal. We all like you so you must be doing something right

aww thanks! im not shy at alll when i know people well, its just i dont want people to get the wrong impression of me so i hold back a bit! the house has sorted out now yay!!!

No, no, no! University should constitute the some of the best years of your life, once you’ve become settled. It’s not for everyone but if you think you’d like to give it a go then you really should… and make the most of it. I met the man I’m about to marry at university as well as a whole heap of other wonderful friends. I joined a lot of clubs, like the ‘illuminated thespians’ (who did the summer and winter pantos), I played netball and badminton and I went to the student union on a daily basis as a way of meeting people. I was fortunate to get on with everyone in my Halls of Residence but also find friends outside of it too.

You should really know by Christmas if you think you can stomach it or not. However you should never feel pressured into going just because it’s what is expected of you or because all of your friends have. It’s got to be a decision you make on your own. I nearly didn’t go because I was sick of work after a rather tumultuous time during A-levels but I did; and it was wicked!!

I may converted some non believers!
On Saturday night I convinced some of Hubby's family to watch a couple of episodes , at first they were saying how silly it was but by the middle of Series 1 ep 5 were laughing their a***s off!
