I've been browsing other TV related sites and saw a message from someone who liked GW but said that Stephen Mangan was holding the show together and that the main funny scenes were his. The view got support from others and I was wondering what people thought on this site.
Hehe reminds me of the episode 5 commentary when Stephen Mangan said about they called him in to ask him what he thought about where his character should go and he said they should kill the rest of and make the show about him lol!
I agree its a group ensembe comedy but I dont think some of the others bits are that funny to be honest in series 2. Statham for example has got annoying and even Sue is beginning to bore me. The scene with Caroline and Mac about Boraline not Caroline sums up how tedious it can be if Steve's not in a scene with them. So I tend to agree but still love them all to bits.
Steve is funny, but he needs the others to bounce off - its an ensemble thing. The exception to this was the jetski - absolutely inspired - still laughing thinking about it.
"I know I'm not wearing much makeup, but thats quite rude"
what makes this show so great is that EVERYONE is a brilliant actor! the characters are important because of their interaction and yes guy is probably the funniest but he wouldn't eb funny if the other characters weren't there! one can't expect every character to bring the same thing to a show, he brings a certain type of comedy to the show, sue white and alan staitham a different kind, mac and caroline are tegh romeo and juliet of the show and all the other characters are also important to keep the show together... i totally disagree that SM is "holding the show together"
And In The End The Love You Take Is Equal To The Love You Make
- Remember that, the Beatles were all about love, it's all you need. Peace and love everyone!
It must have been a huge Guy/Stephen Mangan fan who said that. I agree that Guy is a great character but so are the rest of the characters in GW. They all contribute to the show in their own little way and I don't think there is a single character that stands out, it's all team-work.
Up until last week's episode I'd have said I like to see all the characters in each episode but last week I started fast forwarding through some scenes (unsurprisingly none with Steve in). My family enjoyed series 1 but dont laugh as much at series 2. Interestingly it was the Statham bits and ones with Tamsin and JRT that they werent interested in from last weeks episode. Statham needs to develop a bit more because a series of him only being sexually frustrated is going to be very boring.
I think there's been more criticism of this series by critics and viewers alike so they focus on the out and out funny scenes. Steve's are extremely funny so perhaps its natural comments like this will be made.
