Now, I don't want to offend anyone, because I know how much they love Green Wing. But, I recently saw the Italian Job, and for those of you who haven't seen in, the end invloves:
A load of money is hidden in a bus, and the bus is being driven away from the police. However, the bus slips on a rocky surface, and ends up dangling over a cliff edge. Now, since GW was made after The Italian Job, I think that GW stole the idea about going over a cliff!
The Italian Job is a seminal film, and certainly one that writers made a passing nod to with the ambulance scene. Leaving us in both cases with a literal cliff hanger...
Not theft necessarily, more homage
#...I was sad and lonely and I wanted some fun - I never have any fun - and he is so shiny!!#
Everybody rips everybody off now adays. Havent you seen the episode of south park when butters tries to find ways of destroying the earth but every idea he comes up with has already been done by the simpsons?
Its not a big deal.
............................................. every time we touch we get closer to heaven, and with every sunrise our sins are forgiven, you on my skin - this must be the end, the only way you could love me is to hurt me again and again, and again....

I agree, I thought the reference to the Italian job was deliberate and fun, like the reference to Brief Encounter in ep 8 (that was more subtle though - I spotted the railway connotations, but not the direct quote).
