I believe it's fashionable these days not to like The Office, but I love it for its subtleties, and the characterisation is excellent, as is the acting. Perhaps you have to know people like those characters, or work in a similar environment, as well as enjoying that kind of subtle humour.

i think the office is brilliant! it was one of the few shows of recent years that was truly intelligent and had very subtle but clever humour. it was purely based on characters and the actors ability to make them very real and totally engaging. ricky gervais is a genius as far as i'm concerned! i think he created something wonderful with the office. but i do think you have to like a certain kind of humour to like the office. it's not in your face or obvious, it is just brilliant!

Yes, I loved The Office. I missed the first 10 minutes of the first episode when it started, but my brother phoned me to say that I must turn over to watch this weird programme. I was hooked within minutes. I don't know if it appeals more to people who have worked in offices? I certainly recognised all of those characters, and loved things like the useless training sessions which could have been taken, word for word from some of my own experiences!!! Comedy genius.
I could never really get into it. For a while i wondered if they were being serious. Like it was a real office with a real boss that was SOOOOO dumb they decided they had to make a series out of it.
"Do you wana come round my gaff tonight?" "Your gaff?" "It's not rude!" "I'm not coming if it's not rude!"
whet it started i tried to watch it, but i couldn't get into it and thought it wasn't even remotely funny. now that everyone says it's brilliant and it's won loads of awards, i keep meaning to watch the repeats, but i keep forgetting and i'm not really that bothered.it could never compare to gw, anyway

I love The Office – I got almost as excited over Tim and Dawn as I have about Mac and Caroline!! I think if you work in an office it’s easier to get the humour but I also found it immensely funny when it was on TV and I was at University then!
You can make comparisons with GW – the more I watch it, the more funny it gets, – its intelligent humour rather than quick laugh gags (although admittedly there are a number of quick laugh gags in both) and the attention to detail is acute. I think The Office is second only the GW in my opinion (closely followed by Phoenix Nights)
I guess if you don’t like Ricky Gervais then it’s not for you, but I thought he was brilliant – my feelings fluctuated so many times during an episode – one minute I was cringing, the next minute laughing, the next almost crying… The whole “documentary style” filming gave it something extra compared with most other comedy series – it was different and extremely innovative.
The appeal for me was that the characters were so real – they all had their flaws, but you found yourself actually liking them and caring what happened to them. I even found myself feeling sorry for David Brent on several occasions!!
i agree little shakespeare i was only 15 when i started watching it, and i thought it was great, ive never worked in an office yet still found it funny. the humour is more subtle but still hilarious, the cringing moments are the ones that you look back on and laugh, just like life.

I hate people who think it's clever to take drugs... like custom officers
i never watched it when it first came out i just wasn't interested but there have been repeats on recently and i've realised what i missed...i want the DVDs now lol

I love the office, and I was only about 13 when it was on. It was just so incredible original and clever, and although Ricky Gervais did play a truly nauseating character it was a great show! I really extras too, I think he's shone there as well. Neither are as great as GW though of course!!!
the office is great, there were so many times i wanted to just cry for him lol like when he was waiting for his blind date and saw one woman and said to her "oh good! im waiting for a blind date and i thought you were her!" ahhhhhhh cringe!!

Ashley Jensen. Loved her in May To December, she looks exactly the same now, although it's been yonks since it's been on. She is absolutely wonderful and I'm so glad she got the recognition she deserves. Be great to see her in a programme sharing the lead with TG!

I couldn't bear the office at first, I have a really low embarrassment threshold and couldn't watch David Brent for more than about 3 minutes before I felt like I was going to die of embarrassment. However, then I saw the Christmas episodes and I loved them, then I could bear to watch the rest, perhaps because by then I knew there was some hope for David, and that he might not be entirely awful!

Guy and Caroline?? Mac and Caroline?? Come on guys we lose either way... Its a no win situation isn't it? One of them's going to lose out and I don't think EITHER of them deserve to...
When I first saw the Office I didn't see the appeal, and switched off instead of giving it a chance. Now, I'm absolutely hooked (a few years too late). Love Tim and Dawn, was so so glad when they finally got it together!!
I really like the office and loved the Tim and Dawn relationship but its not got the same appeal as GW. I haven't bought them on dvd and definitely couldn't watch them all in one go as I think I'd be ready to slit my wrists by the end as its not the happiest program ever (apart from T and D at the end) I also don't think I could cope with that much cringing!
I don't know its an impossible choice, i'll just have to hope that when I flip the coin it somehow explodes and kills me.
I love the office, the dance sequence is one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and I thought it was well acted as well, but I can see why it’s not for everyone. I think that Green wing is a lot better though.
