For all those who don't have/can't be bothered to watch the commentary, I have a few little informative behind-the-scenes snippets.Oh, and some stuff from series 2 which I actually set up a thread about a while ago. Okay:
1.When Martin and Guy are walking along the corridor and Guy shouts out "Martins having a **** in the cupboard", look at the bloke standing at the window on Martin's side. Doesn't he look quite scarily like the bloke who had 'A very big heart and his own ladder'? That's because he is.
2. The shot with Martin and Boyce checking out Martin's old school friends on the computer - It isn't a big one, but Boyce's arm is around Martin, then it isn't.Also, after a woman walks in front of the screen, Boyce is a bit closer to the monitor. And when they get up and leave, the bloke that sits down at the computer is none other than Phil SECRETAN, one of the cast and Guy's namesake.
3. When Guy's talking to Lyndon about 'my domain', the bloke that they wheel in for the knee whatyamacallit, that's the director of photography Rob Kitzmann.
4.And when Guy and Caroline first arrive, the camera moves around to see the crowd by the front doors and Guy is frozen with his butt in Caro's face! Also when he's dancing, he's facing away and then suddenly towards her without him turning round.
5.The scene where Guy goes into Sue White's office with the kid? entirely improvised. As is the scene where Sue is saying "how about that then. Dr. Secretan, whopping it up staff liason's ar**."
6.Just before when Mac shows his lovely bum, there's a guy being pulled along the corridor backwards (in a wheelchair). That isn't actually relevant, I just thought it was funny. I guess the doctor was a bit tired...
7.one of the editors Billy Sneddon was the tramp at the beginning of ep.7. When Guy drops all of his money in front of him. and in the credits for ep.2, the second editor's name is in the most strangely tiny writing.
8.They filmed a lot of this in Chiswick, which is in London and is where I used to live! I can't believe I don't recognise anywhere! But then I suppose, I can't remember much from before I was 12 so I don't suppose I would.(occupational hazard of having short term memory loss.)
9.in the "drink my pee, pull like me" scene, just after Guy goes off to get the corpse juice, Mac throws up a peanut and hits himself in the eye. The look on his face is priceless! I'm laughing as I type. Oh, and when the camera changes, he suddenly starts chewing, even though we didn't see him put anything in his mouth.
10. Also, the name "Green Wing". Lots of people want to know where this name came from. It came from when one of the crew (I can't remember who) came into Victoria Piloe's office asking what the name was going to be. A little green man with little green wing fell out of his top pocket. She said "You've dropped something" and he told her that he'd never seen that before in his life. It is now sitting on top of her computer. Also, a piece of paper was passed around the cast and crew to try and think of a better name. They couldn't.
11.Ep.3 With the cartwheels. Boyce manages to change the way he's facing twice.
12.also in ep. 3, Fay Rusling played a nurse, and Oriane Messina played one of the lodgers. (They are 2 of the writers).
Also, from series 2:
right here, I have the deleted scenes from series 2, and The DVD. REALLY REALLY REALLY annoyingly, it still isn't decided whether it will be realeased on September 4th or October 23rd. If you go on Amazon, it says September, isf you go on Play. com, it says October. I would advise you to go for Amazon, because it is also 32% off. £16.99!
Anyway, more information. I have 2 unused storylines, the first being that Guy was suffering from impotence, and the second was that Alan had and eighty year old wife and grandkids as old as him! How weird is that!
Also, deleted scenes:
1. Boyce and Martin try an online test to see what they would be like if they were like Caroline. You can see this scene at
www.you tube.com, Green Wing Independant women.
2. Alan urinating in Sue's office as an act of revenge, then Sue enters with some Japanese delegates. You can see this scene at
www.you tube.com, Green Wing Japanese delegates.
3. Sue entering the men's toilets and talking whilst Martin is trying to urinate. Then she defecates into a urianal. You can see this scene at
www.you tube.com, Green Wing Piss.
(he he, Green wing piss...)
4. Guy appearing to die slowly and dramatically in theatre before we discover that he and all the other people in the room are only playing a game of Wink Murder. You can see this scene at
www.you tube.com, Green Wing Wink Murder.
I haven't seen them yet, but they look cool.
I have loads more stuff, look...
'First of all, the show needed a name. The title is said to have come from a small plastic green pixie with wings that was on top of Victoria Pile's computer monitor. This appears at the end of the credits on every show.
Whereas most of the show is fantasy, the character names are related to people known to the writers, actors or other members of the crew. For example, Dr. Caroline Todd (Greig) is also the name of Victoria Pile's GP. Another possible example is the character Jake Leaf (Darren Boyd) who appears in series 2. His surname may come from Tamsin Greig's actual surname (she is married to the actor Richard Leaf). Parts of the hospital are also named after people. For example, "Fincham Ward" as mentioned in the episode, "Joanna's Birthday," is named after executive producer Peter Fincham.
Most of the actors were friends of Pile. Only two, Sarah Alexander (Angela) and Karl Theobald (Martin) had worked with her previously on Smack the Pony (Alexander as an actor and Theobald as a writer). Although each script is fully written, the actors are allowed to improvise and create their own jokes, frequently adding to what has already been written. Rusling, Howe, Messina and Harley all have had speaking parts in the show, most notably Harley playing Charles the hospital's CEO. The show's crew often make appearances in the show as extras. Nearly everyone involved makes a small appearance.
Most of the filming was done at two hospitals, the Northwick Park Hospital in Middlesex and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke. However, some scenes such as those in Sue and Alan's offices (Gomez and Heap respectively) where filmed in a studio. The show uses a wide range of props, features animals, and also hires vehicles, with the notable exception of Julian Rhind-Tutt, who drives his own Ducati 1000DS motorbike. Some scenes such as the cliff-hanger scene at the end of Series 1 took several days to shoot. Other notable scenes production wise include the end of, "Caroline's First Day," in which Caroline (Greig) uses a ski-pole to try and make the, "Monster," go down. Greig actually ruined the toilet bowl.
Originally, the show had a half-hour pilot made a year before transmission that was never aired. Scenes from the pilot can easily be spotted in the first episode, "Caroline's First Day," due to the characters' appearance, most notably Stephen Mangan's and Julian Rhind-Tutt's haircuts.'
