Actually it was (and to my knowledge still is, having left there years ago) rubbish and consists of one smallish room covered in black paint. And even that wasn't around in Judi Dench's time.

It just goes to show that you can become a great actor without the need for gimmicky props and a decent costume department! Our drama studio was a small, black room too, they must have been trying to insulate it against non-thespian vibes or something...

Ah. Forgot about the costume department. With poncy costumes donated by some duke or other. And a stage too, come to think of it. And lighting and sound departments. Sh*t. Kind of destroys my point, doesn't it?
