I think it is really interesting that GW appeals to a mainly female audience. Smack the Pony was the same. There are very few shows developed by women and you can really tell there are women involved at every stage of GW. Little Britain for example had a real streak of cruelty running through it which didn't appeal to me at all, I also thought it was a bit misogynistic. GW is rude and surreal but there is real heart in it and it has a very strong interest to real relationships and real people. I think that's why women like it so much. As for this forum reeking of oestrogen that's the future buddy read it and weep.

well, firstly i'm female (though it's probably kinda obvious from the name). secondly i too quote from comedies such as monty python (genius), spaced, father ted (with my bad dougal voice) and red dwarf (with my bad kryten voice) and i don't know many, if any, other girls that do that. my little brother does too and he likes GW. but he hasn't seen all of the 1st series yet (i have the dvd here at uni), so after the exams we'll have a GW marathon of series 1 and 2 - i'm sure he'll be quoting with me then!!! however, when i was at home whilst the repeats of the 1st series were on and we watched episode 5 he said that he wished they would get on with it as all the 'who fancies who?' stuff was boring. that's propbably how most men see it, and so aren't as obsessed about the characters and their lives as we poor females seem to be! ooh gosh, this is long. must stop as i do have revision to do - grrr. finish tomorrow though - yay and can spend as much time as i like on here. hmmmmm... a bit obsessive methinks...

I'm female. I think. Clichédly: I was; last time I checked.
I constantly watch all the male dominated comedies and am consistently quoting and/or talking about them; so people think I have a very male-orientated brain. A Gay male, obviously.
What I like about Green wing has been mentioned in a previous post; women are given male roles and are equal in comedic value etc. I also like a bit of romance to add to the emotional pull of the thing.

Oh my god you have just mentioned all my favourite shows (apart from black books) it seems that many of the people here have very similar comedy tastes (which I suppose makes sense)
I don't know its an impossible choice, i'll just have to hope that when I flip the coin it somehow explodes and kills me.

I find GW is one of them things you either love or hate, like Marmite (LOL), so maybe it just draws more of a female audience. A lot of people think it's Brittain's answer to 'Scrubs' but it totally isn't, it's in a league of its own.
Why do people always do that with great British comedies? Why do they hav to be a british version of something else American?! They did it with Coupling, comparing it to friends! I mean don't get me wrong, I love Friends too, but why can't Coupling and Green Wing just be recognised for how great they are on there own merits?!

Is that really true, or is tonyuk the only one man enough to own up?

I realise I haven't said, but I am definitely a girl!

I'm a girl (obvious from the name). Strange thing tho', I find I can only quote things like The Office and Green Wing with guys; they seem to know whole scenes (and voice tones). My female friends don't know what I'm talking about and laugh nervously.
