Amy: Leah!
Leah was frozen at the top of the stairs, her eyes wide and her mouth open, gawping at her mother.
Leah: What he said...
Amy: It's not as it sounds-
Leah: Is this why we're leaving?
Amy put her head in her hands, wishing that none of it was happening.
Leah: It's Fletch's, isn't it?
Amy hesitated, her eyes meeting her daughter's.
She looked away, unable to lie to her face.
Amy: Have you packed your things?
Leah: You haven't answered my question.
Amy: Get your things, Leah.
Leah (her voice raised): Why won't you just tell me the truth?
Amy (shouting): Get your things!
Leah wouldn't move. Desperate, Amy ran up the stairs, barged passed her and into her bedroom, packing her daughter's possessions hurriedly into a tatty suitcase.
Leah: What're you doing? Mum, stop it!
She tugged at her mother's arm, begging her to stop. Without thinking, Amy pushed her away, making her fall backwards onto the floor. It was only then when she stopped, and rushed over to her daughter, apology after apology spilling from her lips. She paused as she looked up, to see Josh standing in the doorway.
Josh: Don't do this Amy. Please. We can make this work.
Amy shook her head, prompting Josh to desperately continue on.
Josh: I could go with you. I could support you, financially and emotionally. You can't do this on your own.
Amy stood up and walked straight over to him.
Amy (pointing her finger in his face): Now that is where you're wrong.
She turned to her daughter, who was now back up on her feet. She looked directly at Amy, whose cheeks were now stained with tears. Seeing her like she was made Leah realised - she wanted this as much as Leah did, but had no other choice. She was at breaking point, and Leah knew she had to put her needs first.
They heard the door close downstairs. Megan and Karen were back.
Running down the stairs to greet them, Leah took them both by suprise when she hugged Megan whilst tears rolled down her cheeks.
Karen: What's all this for?
Amy followed Leah down the stairs, holding out a pair of keys. She handed them over to Karen, who's expression was nothing short of bewildered.
Karen: Why?
Amy: I can't explain now. I'll send you money for the house every month. Thank you for everything you've done.
She smiled, then hugged her. Her only friend in the world, and she was leaving her.
Amy: C'mon, Leah.
She took hold of her daughter's hand, then walked out of the door, without looking back. She could still hear Josh's pleas behind her, but the taxi was waiting, and she had to do it now, or she'd never do it.
