Zoë nervously walked into the interview room. She looked at the guy who was going to interview her and sighed as she saw the old stern-faced man but when he grinned at her she felt a little better. This was one of the only interviews she had gotten for a job she actually wanted – well one that would get her somewhere closer to the place she wanted to be. She had felt so angry with Will after he had stopped her going on that film course in New York. That was her chance and she would have done so much better if she’d gone.
“Hi, I’m Mr Finton. It’s… Zoë isn’t it?” Mr Finton said.
“Yeah,” Zoë said.
The interview went normally with him asking all the usual questions but as she left the room she felt confident that she could get the job – a TV presenter on T4. It was exciting and even though she wouldn’t be involved in filming anything she would at least have the chance of doing something on TV.
Later that evening Zoë sat down on the sofa and turned the television on but at that moment the doorbell rang. When she opened the door she saw that it was Zach.
“Hi Zach,” she said, “What are you doing here?”
“You invited me round for dinner tonight. Have I got the wrong day?” he asked.
“Oh no! I completely forgot about dinner – I haven’t cooked anything,” Zoë said feeling really embarrassed.
“Don’t’ worry we can get a takeaway,” Zach said.
They went inside and sat down after ordering the takeaway. The TV was on and it was switched onto the news. It caught their attention when a name they recognised was mentioned.
“I am Sharon Osfield and I am live here at the scene where Will Hackett jumped off the top of this building to his death. Now it looks just like an ordinary street but here is some footage of last night,” the news reporter said.
Zoë and Zach sat flabbergasted as they saw cameras, police cars and ambulances surrounding a body that they recognised to be Will’s.
“Will was holding a party at the building and after some interviews with people attending the party, the motive of Mr Hackett seems to be his girlfriend and friends refusing to talk to him. Will had just been released from prison a few days ago from a 3 year sentence. It seems that his death was unexpected and no family or friends have turned up to take the body to organise a funeral,” the reporter continued.
Guilt flared up in Zoë’s body as she realised she had killed somebody. No” I didn’t kill him. He didn’t deserve to talk to me. He was an evil man. I didn’t have to forgive him. Zoë thought but all the same she couldn’t help feeling it was all her fault…
