Christmas morning had arrived and Jess and Kris were happily snuggled together in bed. Slowly Jess’ eyes blinked open, adjusting to the light. Kris’ head was nuzzled in to her neck and his arm was draped over her tummy. Lightly she placed a kiss on his nose, causing Kris to wake up. He planted a kiss on Jess’ lips then rested his head back on the pillow. Jess twisted on to her side and placed her mouth against Kris’ ear. “Merry Christmas” She whispered. Kris pulled Jess on to him, so she was sitting on top of him.
“Happy Christmas to you too Princess.” He tapped her nose as he said it which caused Jess to let out a soft giggle and she wrinkled her nose while rubbing it. Kris’ fingers ran up and down Jess’ arm. “So when do I get my present?” Kris winked at her.
“Who said I’ve got you a present?”
“Well for a start you definitely have and secondly this is the perfect time to give it me, I’m wide awake and Lily is asleep and I’m most certainly in the mood.”
“Kris...what makes you think it is that anyway?”
“Princess look at what you are wearing?” Jess looked down to see her silk night dress revealing a vast amount of her cleavage.
“I wear this every night.” Jess’ brows furrowed.
“Yes you do Princess but you are practically falling out of it and that says one thing to any red blooded male.” Jess mocked. “Something up Princess?”
“No, no, not at all. It’s just I thought you said you were a red blood male. It must be my mistake.”
“Is that so Miss Harris?”
“You fully well know it is Mr Fisher.” Jess planted a kiss on Kris’ lips then slipped off him and out the bed. Kris tugged on to her arm.
“Where do you think you are going?”
“To get our daughter so she can open her presents.”
“But I want my present!” Kris complained like a little child.
“And you will get your present once I’ve gotten Lily.”
“Jess I don’t think it’s the best idea for us to do that in front of a one year old or anyone for that matter.”
“Kris your present is wrapped up under the tree in the lounge.” Jess wrapped her dressing gown around her and she slipped her feet in to the warmth of her soft slippers before going to get Lily, leaving Kris lying in bed.

While Jess went to get Lily, Kris sulked a while longer and then he decided it was best to separate the presents in to piles. Lily’s in one, Jess’ in another and his tiny little pile in the corner. Once he had finished he sat cross legged on the floor waiting for Jess and Lily. Of course they would be a while because Jess was very precise and everything had to be perfect, which was rather annoying when they wrapped Lily’s presents up. Every single piece of tap had to be in the exact middle of the Christmas paper and the Christmas paper had to be perfect straight, then there was the ribbon. It was all too much for Kris to take. At the end of the day Lily was just going to rip the paper off. Strolling through, Jess held Lily firmly on her hip. Jess placed Lily next to Kris, and went to select a present for Lily to open. Kris was jabbering away to Lily, telling her all about Christmas. Lily started to giggle and smile. “See she does know what Christmas is.” Kris said stubbornly.
“Kris she is one, she isn’t even one and a half yet.”
“She still knows what it is.”
“The only reason she understands you is because you talk rubbish like she does...don’t you Lily Lou La?” Jess rubbed Lily’s cheek, while Kris for once in a while was completely silent, not that it ever lasted that long.
“Jess....”
“What is it?”
“How come my pile of presents is smaller than everyone else’s?”
“Do I honestly need to answer that?”
“Yes...” Before Jess could answer, the door bell went. Jess went to answer the door, while Kris kept Lily entertained.
“Mummy, Daddy.” Jess gasped. Kris gazed up from Lily to see who he assumed were Jess’ parents.
“Great” He muttered to Lily. Jess wrapped her arms around each of her parents, giving them a tight long needed hug, before she invited them in.
“We have missed you so much darling as well as little Lily. Where is she?” Her Mother questioned
“She is with her Daddy.” Jess pointed to over where Kris was sat with Lily. He was starting to feel slightly exposed sitting there with only his boxers on, and especially with everyone including Lily staring at him. “This is going to be one interesting Christmas.” Kris sighed.

Lily was taken from Kris, so he took the opportunity to go and get dressed. He certainly took his time and he didn’t make another appearance for about half an hour and when he did he went straight over to the floor and took Lily from it. Carrying her to the tree to receive her gifts for her to open, Jess followed him over. Kris crouched down and let Lily pick the gifts up to place in the centre of the lounge. For a few moments Jess just watched Kris interacting with Lily. It was certainly one of the best things she could have ever done coming back to Hollyoaks and finding Kris, well more like him finding her but she didn’t regret it one bit. Jess placed her hand on his shoulder and bent down, so she was the perfect height to talk to him. “Kris...” He didn’t respond. “Lily was playing with Mummy and Daddy.”
“Yeh well she’s my daughter.”
“She’s their Granddaughter, who they haven’t seen since her Birthday.”
“I didn’t meet my daughter until her Birthday but whose fault is that?”
“Not here Kris...please.”
“Fine bedroom then.” Jess furrowed her brow. Kris placed Lily on the floor away from the tree and walked towards the bedroom after placing a kiss on Lily’s head. Jess began to follow and smiled at her parents for encouragement. When she walked in to the room Kris was stood by the window, his back to Jess and his arms folded.
“You know why I took lily away.” Jess told Kris calmly. He continued to gaze out the window.
“You didn’t have to.”
“I didn’t have to? How couldn’t I? Kris you packed my bag and told me to get rid of our child.” Jess’ voice started to quiver and tears filled her eyes.
“Since when did you do what I said?”
“I didn’t do what you said though did I? Because I never got rid of Lily. I could never do that, especially when she was ours.” Tears slipped down Jess’ cheeks. “Kris what’s gotten in to you? Things were fine this morning and all of a sudden things have changed.”
“Jess who walked through that door?” Jess remained silent. “Well.....who?” Kris’ voice rose.
“My parents but I don’t see what this has to do with anything.”
“Jess this was my first Christmas with my family but no you forgot to tell me they were coming round to take it away from me.”
“They are your family.”
“No there not Jess, they’re yours.” Kris walked out the room and collected Lily from the floor once more, gathering all her presents in to a pile. Jess stayed in the bedroom for a few minutes to sort herself out. She made sure there were no tears left.
“Right time for presents then is it?” Jess said smiling....a fake smile.

Once Lily’s presents had been unwrapped, Jess got dressed and started on dinner. Luckily there was enough because Zak and Zoe were going to come for dinner, so Jess was prepared to feed rather a few mouths. While Jess and her Mum were busy in the kitchen, Kris was in the lounge playing with Lily and her toys. Jess’ Dad was sat in an armchair, reading the paper. His eyes glanced over the paper and he saw how content Kris was with Lily. “I’m Clive...I believe you are the famous Kris.” He shuck Kris’ hand.
“What do you mean famous?”
“Well our Jessica never stopped talking about the most arrogant, pig-headed, inconsiderate, selfish, stubborn pathetic fool that she has ever met. Did I get that all right?”
“That certainly sounds like Jess....she talked about me then?”
“She certainly did. Every phone call always contained some remark about you.”
“Did she tell you why she came home?” Kris bowed his head and busied himself with Lily, dreading the reply to come.
“Yes, she said she got pregnant and couldn’t tell the Father. At first she didn’t tell us anything. She spent her days weeping in her bedroom, refusing to eat but eventually she told us little bits.”
“O right.”
Kris if you don’t mind I have a question to ask.”
“Go ahead.”
“Did she tell you?”
“That she was pregnant? Yes but things were difficult back then.”
“Right, ok. I always thought she was keeping something from us.”
“Do you mind watching Lily for a moment please.”
“It would be a pleasure.” Kris wandered in to the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Jess’ waist and he placed a kiss on the top of her head.
“I’m sorry...I’ve been an idiot.”
“Tell me something I don’t know.”
“I love you, you do know that?”
“I do doubt it sometimes.” Jess turned around and looked Kris in the eyes.
“You’re gorgeous and I couldn’t be happy with anyone else. Jessica Harris you are the one for me.”
“Yeh well I just put up with you for Lily.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes it is but for what it’s worth I love you too.”

Dinner was on its way to being ready. Kris and Jess were sat cuddling on the sofa, while the turkey cooked to perfection. Lily was placed on Jess’ knee and every now and then a giggle would escape her mouth. Jess’ parents were happily talking to Kris, getting to know him and most importantly they were getting along. Turns out Jess’ parents weren’t as bad as Kris thought. Clive always seemed like a piggy bank and as for Ann, Kris was expecting a control freak but actually she was lovely. She had a very warm personality and was trying to mother everyone. The doorbell rang, as Jess and Lily were playing, so Jess got up from her seat, taking Lily with her, after she planted a kiss on Kris’ lips. She carried Lily to the door and answered it. She was certainly shocked as to who it was. She didn’t expect him at all. He gathered her in his arms and swung her around. After placing Jess back down on the floor, with Lily snug in her arms, he looked up to see mistletoe above their heads. “O look what we are under Princess.” Before Jess could object, he placed his lips on hers. Kris glared over and Jess could feel all eyes on her. Eventually Jess managed to pull back and she composed herself.
“Jonathan what a lovely surprise.” Jonathan took Lily from Jess’ arms and started to throw her up in the air and catch her. It didn’t take long for Kris to go over to Jess and Jonathan. Kris took Lily from Jonathan and handed her to Ann. Kris strode back over to Jess. “Jonathan this is Kris, Lily’s Father and Kris this is Jonathan, my friend.”
“Nice to meet you Kris.” Jonathan held his hand out but Kris just turned his head and ignored him.
“Jessica, could we talk in the bedroom for a second.”
“I will be back in a minute Jonathan.” Jess once again followed Kris in to the bedroom.

When Jess entered the room, it was like she had stepped back an hour or so. Kris was once again stood by the window, with his back to Jess and his arms folded.
“Kris what is wrong?” Jess asked Kris calmly. He continued to gaze out the window.
“You should fully well know what’s wrong.” Jess remained silent and Kris swung round. “Jess you’ve just been stood out there making out with your little boyfriend.”
“He isn’t my boyfriend” Jess kept her voice calm; she was determined not to let her anger rise.
“So you’re not denying that you were all over him.”
“You know as far as I do that that isn’t true. Kris I love you, I don’t see what is wrong here.” Tears very slowly started to fill Jess’ eyes.
“What’s wrong? You have to be kidding me. Someone else has just walked through that door. Someone who I don’t know. And someone who I don’t want to be here for my family Christmas.”
“Kris I didn’t know he was coming but it’s not like we can do anything, he owns the flat, he is the one that helped me when you weren’t there and he’s my friend.”
“You seemed more than friendly to me. You know why I wasn’t there, it didn’t mean you had to find a new Dad for Lily.”
“Lily only has one Dad.”
“Yeh she does, James because I certainly ain’t after all who was there when you were pregnant and had the baby?”
“Kris I’m not going to argue with you.”
“Well that’s good then because I’m taking Lily out.” Kris grabbed his shoes and coat and walked out the room. He collected Lily from the floor and got her coat and wrapped it around her. Jess walked out in to the lounge.
“Kris where are you taking her?” Kris walked out the flat, taking Lily with him in to the snow. “Kris where?” Jonathan walked to Jess’ side and put a comforting arm around her.

Half an hour later Kris was sat on the doorstep with Lily in his arms. The snow had stopped falling and the village was peaceful, nothing like Kris had ever seen it like before. It was always filled with people but today there was no one to be seen. That was until Zak and Zoe walked up the street, arm in arm. They saw Kris outside and looked slightly confused. “Happy Christmas.” Zoe said cheerfully, she bent down and rubbed Lily’s cheek. “Has Santa come to visit? Has he?” Lily nodded her head. “Yes. Aww aren’t you just adorable? Anyway where is your Mummy? You haven’t left her cooking have you Kris?”
“O she’s inside with her lovely little ready made family.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well her boyfriend has arrived along with her parents.”
“She’s got a boyfriend? I thought you’se were together.”
“So did I”
“Kris stop being so silly, you and Jess are together. Now let’s get in before you catch a cold.” Zoe took Lily from Kris and helped him up. They all went inside for a merry Christmas lunch; well that’s what they all hoped.

I was wondering when that guy would be back!! He has just gone and ruined it. But Kris needs to believe Jess though before Jonathan gets involved again.

Kris, Lily, Zoe and Zak walked in to a subdued living room. All eyes looked upon them as Kris bent down to take Lily’s coat, hat and gloves off. He planted a kiss on Lily’s head to then glance up to see Jess snuggled in to Jonathan, just like she would snuggle in to Kris. Lily toddled off and Jess came over to the three of them to greet her guests. Jess was quite the dinner host when it came to events like this. The table was laid to perfection and she always tried to keep the peace but today that was the one thing that wasn’t there. As the saying goes the tension could be cut with a knife. Everyone was on edge including Zak and Zoe who had only just arrived and even Lily knew something was wrong because her Muma and Dada weren’t all cuddled up together but she was also a bit overwhelmed by all the guests and snow. Jess wrapped her arms around Zoe for a second or so longer than a normal greeting hug. Zoe shone her best sympathetic smile, while Zak just stood and grinned, like he always would no matter what the situation. Jess tried to smile but she could feel tears prickling her eyes. And of course she tried her best to prevent them from falling. “Merry Christmas! Did Santa visit you both?”Jess tried to keep a cheery voice but all she could feel was a quiver every odd word or so.
“Happy Christmas, yeh he certainly did but maybe he should have stayed away.” Zoe gave Zak a stern look.
“What do you mean?”
“O well Zak just seemed to think that I would want a seasons ticket to watch the Liverpool matches, o and not only that he got me two just so he could go as well.”
“I thought you’se would like it.”
“No you thought this is a good way to get Zoe to let me go to the games. Anyway are you ok?” Before answering Jess took a deep breath.
“Yes absolutely fine. Dinner will be ready in thirty minutes by the way, so feel free to make yourself at home. I just have a few things to do.” Jess went to walk away but Kris clutched on to her arm. Slowly she turned to look at him. “Let go, I have things to do.”
“Jess we need to talk.”
“I think you will find you need to talk but I don’t.” Kris slowly loosened his grip, defeated by a few simple words.

Kris sat in the bedroom, his head bowed; looking at the gift he had chosen especially for Jess. Considering the details of the situation, it didn’t seem like he would be able to give Jess the gift. It had taken him weeks to get everything sorted and ready. The thing he most wanted was for him to have the perfectly family Christmas, but that wasn’t exactly going to happen considering the circumstances. Blinking away the collection of tears in his eyes, Kris placed the present back in the draw it came from. He wiped his face with his hands then he exited the room in to the lounge, kitchen diner. A soft sobbing could be heard from the bathroom. In the lounge everyone was sat giggling at Lily, who was centre of attention due to her bopping to the Christmas music. That narrowed it down to one person. Jess. His Jess. Lightly he knocked on the door. He could hear her moving about trying to rid the tears but gentle sobs could still be heard. “Jess.....Princess....please”
“Don’t call me that.” The door remained shut.
“Jess please let me in.” The door still stayed shut, the only difference this time was Jess was silent. Kris pulled down on the handle and slowly opened the door to see Jess sat on the toilet seat, her head in her hands and tears falling from the tips of her fingers, soaking in to her jeans. Kris shut the door behind him and kneeled next to Jess. Placing his hand on her arm, it was only knocked off again.

“Princess please. I know I’ve been a complete idiot and I’m sorry but it’s just.....I love you to bits but it’s hard....because he has been there....he was there for you when I wasn’t, when I should have...been but the thing is I was stupid back then and I made you leave and I don’t even know why because no matter what you did I still loved you.....but I don’t know....I suppose I was just angry.” Kris’ head slowly bowed, he didn’t have the strength to look her in the eyes. “It’s just...I’ve missed so much and I can’t ever make up for that with Lily and he was always there. He isn’t even her Dad but he was there.” Tears slowly skidded down Kris’ checks, falling delicately on to the bathroom floor. “I want to be able to wind back time....but I can’t and if I could I know I would do things differently...I know I wouldn’t have shouted at you before, blamed you about everything that happened back then or...even accused you of lying because we have the most beautiful daughter and I just...I always ruin everything. I suppose that’s why I never wanted anything serious...everything I touch gets hurt because let’s face it...its Christmas day and I’ve made you cry when I should be making you smile. I understand if I’ve lost you and Lily but I don’t think I could settle with having you both for such a short time because I love you too much Jess. I can’t ever lose you both again. It hurts too much. But then I suppose at least I would have loved and lost than never loved at all because I do love you Jess, trust me I do. I might not show it at times but you mean more to me than anyone ever has and I know I don’t deserve you and I never will but I suppose what I’m trying to say is....will...you.....well will you marry me?”
