“So are you going to explain yourself?” Ben hissed angrily at his husband as he paced the room Craig had recently left.
“There is nothing to explain Ben, Craig came onto me, I didn’t do anything!” John Paul begged in reply, his heartbeat sounding loudly in his ears. In that instant he felt his world crashing down around him, nothing would ever have prepared him for this moment, and now, as his heart was tugged in two directions he was at a complete loss as to how to resolve the situation. Whilst his heart seemed to scream one thing, his head insistently said another. It was like a devil on his shoulder, desperately trying to convince him that it was Craig he wanted, not Ben. Yet, as he looked at his angry husband silently begging him for a reasonable explanation, his heart did a somersault and the feelings of lust abandoned him. Craig was his past but Ben was his future, the future he so desperately wanted for himself and his family. His relationship and subsequent marriage to Ben had been filled only with joy and excitement, and, compared with his brief relationship with Craig was practically a lifetime. It was Ben he wanted to share the joys of getting older with, it was Ben he wished to see him through the times of sorrow and pain, yet there was still the slightest doubt.
Craig had breezed back into his life without remorse and turned his precious little world upside down. He had made what had once seemed so right seem wrong and unnecessary. Since he had returned there was always one question that resounded in his mind, “What if me and Ben had never got married, where would me and Craig be?”
Ben’s mind whirled with similar thoughts as he struggled to find an answer to John Paul’s statement. In the heat of the moment yes he had believed that it was John Paul who has initiated the kiss, yet now after his mind had been given time to digest the information, he started to see that it was Craig’s fault. John Paul would never do something like that to him, it wasn’t his character to be vicious and cruel, he was a kind and loving person who constantly made Ben feel like he was on top of the world. Why he would go and blow their marriage to pieces after such a short amount of time he didn’t know. It just was not like John Paul to do something like that.
Ben had wanted the security of the relationship for so long, so when he had met John Paul he felt all his dreams had come true. He had a ready-made family now and was as devoted to Lola as Hannah and John Paul were. It was a situation he wouldn’t change for the world. The love and companionship he had found in John Paul were so rare that he couldn’t even begin to imagine life without him. Something had to be done and he was determined that it should be done sooner rather than later.
