Leaving The Past Behind - Kress

Chapter 1

Jess sat on her bed and stared around her now empty room. In under two hours she would be on the train never to return to Hollyoaks again. She hated the emptiness of her room so she stood up, picked up her bags and dumped them by the front door.

Kris was sat on the sofa and shot her an angry look.

Jess: are you coming for a quick drink?

Kris: (grumpily) mares well I haven’t got anything better to do

Kris stood up and put on his coat

Kris: are we waiting for Zak and Zoe?

Jess: no they’re already there

Kris: better get down there then

Jess picked up her bags and Kris just walked on by as she struggled to carry them

Jess: Kris you could help

Kris: you’re right I could but guess what… I’m not gonna

Kris carried on walking and Jess tried to keep up with him but failed miserably. As they were going down the stairs Jess tripped and fell. Kris stopped dead in his tracks and looked concerned

Kris: Jess are you okay

Jess got to her feet

Jess: (angrily) what do you care?

Jess started to pick up her bags but this time Kris took a couple. They walked into the SU Bar and were greeted by Zoe and Zak

Zoe: finally you’re here. What can we get you to drink

Jess: the usual please

Zoe: Kris are you havin’ your usual?

Kris: yeh please

Zak: I’ll help you with the drinks Zo

Zak and Zoe went to the bar. Kris and Jess sat at either end of the table and there was a long silence until Jess finally spoke

Jess: look Kris…

Kris: save it Jess

Jess: Kris ypu don’t understand…

Kris: (raising his voice) I understand alright. I understand that you are a selfish cow who doesn’t care about anyone else but herself and then when the going gets tough she just up sticks and leaves

Jess: Kris its not like that and you know it

Kris: whatever

Zak and Zoe came back over with the drinks

Zoe: are you two okay

Kris: (sarcastically) yeah. Why wouldn’t we be?

Zoe: right well I guess this is the last time all four of us will be sitting together in here

Zoe’s eyes filled with tears and so did Jess’s. Kris rolled his eyes at them both and took a sip of his beer as he was kicked under the table by Zak

Kris: OW

Zak: (mouths to Kris) be nice

Jess: look I’d better be of

Zoe: surely you can stay for one more drink

Jess: I wish I could

Jess, Zoe and Zak all stood up

Zak: arent you coming to wave Jess goodbye

Kris: nope I’m happy here thanks

Jess turned to Kris and the odd tear rolled down her cheek. For a split second Kris wanted to give in and tell her that he was sorry but he stopped himself.

Jess: right well I guess this is goodbye Kris

Kris: I guess so

Jess, Zak and Zoe all walked outside and the taxi was waiting. Zak helped Jess with her bags and Jess said her final goodbyes

Jess: I am really going to miss you

Jess hugged Zoe and Zak and the two girls cried. Jess climbed into the taxi and they waved her goodbye

Brill start.

As Jess drove of Zak and Zoe walked back into the SU Bar

Zak: I cannot believe you Kris

Zoe: I though you cared about Jess

Kris: I do

Zak: so that a minute ago… that was you being caring was it

Kris stood up angrily

Kris: WHY SHOULD I CARE. JESS DIDN’T CARE. I BET SHE DIDN’T TELL YOU THAT I SPENT THE WHOLE OF LAST NIGHT PLEADING WITH HER TO STAY I EVEN TOLD HER THAT I LOVED HER

Zak and Zoe look at each other in shock

Kris: obviously she didn’t feel the same way about me

Kris left trying to hide his hurt from Zak and Zoe

Chapter 2

Jess was sitting in the taxi and pulled out her phone. She stared at it for a few moments and then decided to text Kris

I wish things could have been different. I’ll never forget you xxx

Jess put her phone in her pocket knowing that Kris wouldn’t reply. Just then the unexpected happened. Jess screamed as she looked up to see the taxi was swerving into a ditch as it tried to dodge going into the back of another car.

Chapter 3

Kris was lying on his bed staring at the text Jess had just sent him. He wasn’t sure whether to text her back or better still ring her. He went into the phonebook and scrolled down to her number

Kris: here goes nothing...

Kris rang but he got no answer. He assumed that Jess obviously didn’t want to talk to him so he threw his phone down and lay there in the dark.

His peace was disturbed as Zoe came running in almost in tears

Kris: Zo, what’s up?

Zoe: there’s… there’s been an accident. It’s Jess…

Kris looked up

Kris: what has happened?

Zoe: they said they’d tell us more at the hospital now just come on

Kris stood up and followed Zak and Zoe out the door and they made there way to the hospital.

When they got there they were directed to the waiting room. They sat down and waited an no one said a word. All that could be heard was Zoe sobbing.

Eventually a doctor came in

Kris: any news

The doctor nodded

Doctor: she’s waking up. Would you like to see her

Kris nodded but little did he know the shock he was in for...

Ohh Noo!
I hope it's a good shock

Jess: what are you doing here

Kris looked confused

Kris: I’ve come to see you you silly cow

Jess: excuse me? I’ve only known you for like a day and you come in here and call me a cow. You’re like a complete stranger. Just because Olivia likes you doesn’t mean I have to. Where is Olivia anyway

Kris was even more confused

Kris: Jess Olivia died… a year ago

Jess: WHAT KIND OF SICK JOKE IS THIS. OF COURSE SHE ISNT DEAD I WAS WITH HER THIS MORNING

Kris: Jess do you remember how you ended up in here

Jess: urm…

Kris: you has an accident princess. Your taxi crashed

Jess: omg was Olivia with me

Kris shook his head

Kris: no Olivia died in a fire

Jess NO SHE DIDN’T. YOU ARE SICK!WHAT KIND OF GUY TRIES TO MAKE SOMEONE THINK THEIR BEST FRIEND IS DEAD

Jess was screaming and crying hysterically. A doctor came in

Doctor: Mr. Fisher I think you should leave

Kris: what? Why? I’m her friend. She’s just forgotten. Listen doctor I think the accident caused her to forget the last year. She thinks her friend Olivia is still alive

Doctor: okay you wait outside and we’ll check that out

Kris walked outside and found Zoe and Zak

Zoe: is she okay

Kris: physically yeah but well… she thinks Olivias still alive and that shes only known me for like a day

Zoe: omg

Kris: I’m gonna try and talk to her again but she just got so upset

Zoe: I can’t believe this is happening

Before long the doctor came back

Doctor: its as we suspected… the accident caused her to forget

Kris: can I talk to her

Doctor: why don’t you try again in the morning

Kris: NO I need to talk to her now

Doctor: very well bit not for to long

Kris went back to Jess’s room and she was sat up in bed crying

Jess: hey

Kris: Jess I’m sorry…

Jess: no its me that’s sorry. The doctor explained everything. A whole year of my life and I can’t remember it

Kris moved over to her and was about to hug her when she resisted

Jess: look sorry but I don’t really know you

Kris: fair enough

Jess: I still can’t get my head around it all. Olivia can’t be dead

Tears ran down her cheeks

Jess: is Joe around

Kris: erm Jess he’s erm… well he’s

Jess: he’s dead as well isn’t he

Kris nodded and sat down on the chair next to her bed

Jess: how did they…

Kris: a fire

Jess cried even more and Kris wasn’t sure what to do. He took her hand and squeezed it gently

Jess: anything else I should know. Do I have a boyfriend?

Kris: well you and me had a bit of a thing going (Kris smirks)

Jess looked horrified

Jess: as if I’d sleep with you

Kris tried to hide his hurt

Kris: (stands up) well you did on several occasions
