“Where is Steve? I‘d like to-”
“Don‘t you DARE say his name!”, Jess shouted, interrupting Kris. Kris swallowed loudly and fell silent

“You could at least try and act as if you’re slightly happy to see me Jess”, he said after a few minutes of silence.
“Well what do you want me to say Kris? Hmm? Kris I love you and I’ve missed you so much, and I think we should be together?! Ha, that’s a joke! Kris there are more important things in my life than you”

Kris stared at Jess.

“Jess, what is your problem?!”, Kris asked, determined to get to the bottom of it
“Kris, can we please make this quick. I have things to do”
“Like what?!”
“Kris, why would I tell you?!”
“Jess, just because Steve left you, doesn’t mean you can take it all out on me!”, Kris retaliated

Jess exhaled in disbelief

“You think Steve left me? Kris I was never with Steve, okay?!”
“But . .”, Kris began
“I married Matt”
“Oh”, was Kris’ response
“But I thought . .”
“You thought wrong. I am . . . I was in love with Steve. Matt found us. Together. I’m sure even you can work out the rest”

Kris fell silent again, and Jess searched for a tissue in her desk. Things had never been so awkward

Fab once again.

“You’re here to pick up Erin then?”, Jess asked, bring the conversation back to what was important
“Yes I am, can I do that?”, Kris asked

Jess looked at him suspiciously. There was no sarcasm meant when he asked, which confused Jess

“Why wouldn’t you be able to Kris?”
“I don’t know. Rules or something”

A knock at the door interrupted them. It was Sam, with Cady in his arms.

“She wont’ stop crying”, came the Barnsley accent. Jess sighed, but smiled and Sam, who winked back and Jess walked over and picked up Cady. The crying continued for a while, but began to die down, as Cady settled on Jess’ lap. Sam breathed out with relief, smiled at Jess, then at Kris, then left the room, closing the door behind him. A loud bang followed seconds after, and then seconds after that came Sam’s voice again.

“I’m alright!”, he shouted. Jess smiled to herself. Sam was great with kids, but somewhat clumsy with his own body.

“He seems nice”, Kris commented.
“He is”
“Is that Cady, as in Cady who was here when we all came here?”
“Yes. Did you see her the two times you visited?”
“No”

The conversation fizzled out again, the only sound that resumed was Cady’s light breathing.

So he IS there to pick up Erin!?!
but he's not her dad u say?

That bit with Sam shouting out he was ok made me giggle lol

I'm really miffed about whats going on with Kris LOL

Wow I can't believe how uch I've had to catch up on. As I was reading through I had a good giggle at Lianne's comments but I have to say that I do agree with the majority of them. lol.
I was also coming to the conclusion thta Kris was Erin's uncle and when I blurted it out to my mum she asked me what the hell I was on about.

Anyway, I love it so much more now I feel so sorry for Jess for being upset and heartbroken but there was no need for her to be so snappy towards Kris. She has to realise that Kris isn't the bad guy in all of this.

Oh and next time I'm not going out so then I won't have so much to read. lol Can't wait to read the next part

“Shall I go and get Erin?”
“No, I’ll go. You wait here Kris”

Jess got up before Kris had time to argue. She hesitated as she passed Kris, deciding on whether to hand Cady over to Kris, but Jess decided against it and walked into the lounge.

“Erin baby. There’s someone here to see you”

Jess glanced at everyone’s faces. Some kids looked happy for Erin, mainly the older ones, yet the younger ones were all desperately wishing it was them.

“Daddy?”, Erin asked, rushing to her feet. Jess didn’t answer, just held the door open for Erin with her spare hand.

Erin skipped into the room but faltered as she saw Kris. She gave him a hug, but even Erin couldn’t hide the disappointment, that it wasn’t her dad. Kris picked Erin up and sat her on his lap. Jess did the same with Cady.

“Erin? You okay?”, Jess asked, standing up and moving her chair closer to Kris and Erin, rubbing Erin gently on the back

Erin nodded, but didn’t speak.

“Erin, I’ve come to take you home”
“To daddy?”
“Daddy’s not home yet, but you’re going to come and live with Uncle Kris for a while”

Erin went quiet again.

“Don’t you want to Erin?”, Jess asked quietly. Erin shrugged her shoulders, and Jess nodded.

“Erin, go back and watch TV for a while, okay? We’ll call you back in a minute”

Erin nodded and pushed her self off of Kris’ lap and ran out the room.

“She doesn’t mean it Kris”, Jess said

Kris didn’t reply.

“Come on, lets go and have a chat upstairs”

Awww bless Erin and yes a chat upstairs with Kris sounds like a WONDERFUL idea Jess LOL

Brilliant, its sweet how the older children were pleased for Erin but the younger ones disappointed it wasnt a visitor for them...quite sad..
