Chapter fifteen
“I know that I agreed not to ask any questions but why are we stalking Jess’s boyfriend?” a confused Gilly finally asked Kris.
“What happened to trusting me?” They were stood opposite Kyle’s apartment block. That was as far as Kris had planned.
“This is for her own good, right?”
“Of course it is. I wouldn’t be hanging around outside a stranger’s flat otherwise,” Kris snapped. Gilly could see how emotional he was getting and decided to leave the line of questioning until later.
“Any ideas of how to find out information about Kyle without looking suspicious?”
Kris grudgingly asked a few minutes later.
“Give me two seconds mate,” Gilly declared. He took off towards the entrance of the apartment block.
“Can I help you dear?” a woman called over to him.
“Can you tell me if Kyle lives here please?” Gilly requested politely. Upon receiving his answer, he beckoned Kris out of his hiding place.
“This is our other mate, Kris,” Gilly informed the woman.
“Other mate?” Kris queried. He was not following the plan.
“I’m just explaining that we’re old mates of Kyle’s. Turns out that this is where he lives.” Kris appeared to click on.
“So how long have you known Kyle?” He turned his attention towards the woman.
“He’s lived here about a year now. We’re next door neighbours.” The woman studied both Kris and Gilly as the conversation progressed. She decided that they meant no harm and invited them into the block to wait for their friend.
“He lives in that flat then?” Gilly pointed out as they made their way to the woman’s flat.
“Yes. He shouldn’t be too long, like I said.” Kris admired the many paintings hanging on the walls as they entered her hallway.
“I drew them all,” she happily announced.
“They’re really good,” Kris commented. She indicated for them to take a seat and went to drop her bags into the kitchen.
“Any idea where he is?” Gilly called out.
“Probably with his new girlfriend dear. I saw her leave his flat yesterday. She seems nice enough.” The woman appeared back in the living room.
“Nice enough? Kris questioned. Those words struck him as odd.
“He always picks the same type of girl. None of them last long mind.” She took a seat opposite the two guys.
“Any idea why?” Gilly saw this as their chance to gain vital information.
“I know that he’s your friend but I’m going to be honest here. This will probably upset you.”
