This is my first fic so don't be evil if it is absolute rubbish!



Steph looked down. The answer was there, she could know if she wanted to. But she couldn't. It was a though her eyes didn't want to know. Her vision was blurry, it was like she was blind. All she had to do was look and find out. She couldn't.
Max: Steph! Hurry up would ya! We have to go!
Steph: Coming!
Feeling like an idiot for not looking, she ran down stairs and followed Max out of the door.

Mercedes: Carmel! What are you doin! We're gonna be late.
Carmel: Does this top show off my boobs enough?
(Mercedes rolls her eyes)
Carmel: What?! I have to look good!
Mercedes: We're going to Jaqui's, not to meat Orlando Bloom!
Carmel: Still, it's nice to look good when your going to your sisters!

Steph felt sick. She dropped the test. Pregnant! How was she Pregnant!She looked in the bathroom mirror. Her face was really really pale. She knew one thing. She had to tell Max the truth.

Carmel was looking in a magasine at Jaqui's. There was an article about surragate mothers. One person had been a surragate 6 times.
Jaqui: Want a cup of tea?
Carmel wasn't listening
Jaqui: Carmel?
Carmel: Oh sorry Jaq. Did you say somthing?
Jaqui: Would you like a cup of tea?
Carmel: Oh that would be lovly!
Mercedes: So, heard anything from tina lately?
Jaqui: Yea, everything's going great! If we want to know, we can find out about the sex!
Carmel: I thought she didn't sleep with tony.
Mercedes: The sex of the baby! Idiot!
Carmel: Oh... Sorry!
Mercedes walked over to hand the cup of tea to her. She tipped it all over her, it was Scoulding hot!
Carmel: (screams) Aaaaagh! It burns. Get me some Ice!
They pulled the bottom half of her top up in a hurry to put ice on her.
Jaqui: Carmel? What's this...?
Jaqui and Mercedes looked down. Utterly confused.

Steph: Max..
Max: Yea, Steph I was thinking, you know MOB's, well now OB's gone should we change the name?
Steph: Ummm.. I don't know. If you want. Anyway I have to tell you somthing.
Max: Can it wait. I really have to get going. We have an order coming in.
Steph: Yea, sure. It's not important at all.

Little did Max know that it was actually important. Very important. Steph was Pregnant. Not with his, With his best mates....

Carmel looked away. She was ashamed. Why didn't she say somthing before? Why did they have to find out this way?
Mercedes: Well?? What happened?
Jaqui: Come on, We're going to the hospital!
Carmel: No! I can't, they'll ask questions!
Jaqui: You have to go! You've got an old manky bandage on, whatever's underneath it is extremely likely to get infected, if it isn't already.
Mercedes: Carmel, what's happened? Has someone hurt you.
(Carmel looked at the floor)
Mercedes: Carmel. We know you want to act like your the best, just because you're nearly a qualified police officer, but if somthing's happend... you have to say somthing!
Carmel: Nothing's happened ok!

It wasn't ok though. She knew she should go to the hospital. But what would they say when they found out who shot her.


Max: Steph! Are you alright?
Steph: Wha.. umm yea. I'm fine. Why?
Max: Dunno. You just seem distant. Anyway, what did you want to tell me earlier?
They were outside MOBs it was very quiet today. The sun was shining down on them. But to Steph, it felt like the rain was pouring down.
Steph: I can't tell you here. It isn't important anyway. It's nothing interesting.
Max: I'm sure it must be interesting if you can't tell me here!
Steph: Well... Fine, it is important. But I'll tell you later. Not now.
Max: Right, well we can get home in a few minutes and you can tell me then. Ok?
Steph: Yeah. Ok then.
Steph wasn't sure she was ready to say. This morning she was confident. Thought he would understand and wouldn't mind. But now she wasn't sure. She just carryed on thinking,It's ok... Accidents Happen.

Jaqui phoned Tony
Jaqui: Hey babe, I'm not going to be in for a while, going out with Carmel and Mercedes. So, can we have food a bit later tonight?
Tony: Yeah, love you.
Jaqui hung up.
Mercedes: Right come on Carmel.
Carmel: But, where are we going?
Mercedes: We're going to the hospital! Before you get infected.
Carmel: I'm not going to the hospital I'm fine!
(Carmel gets a horrible pain when she tries to stand up) Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Jaqui: Get up now Carmel. The hospital will stop the pain.
Carmel: But -
Mercedes: - But nothing. Come on!
Carmel: You don't even know what's happened to me though! So I don't have to go if I don't want to!
Jaqui: Ok. Then I'll rip that bandage off and find out won't I?
Carmel: No! Don't! Id rather you didn't know.
(Jaqui goes over and starts pulling the bandage off. Carmel is in agony!)
Carmel: Stop! OW! It hurts!
Jaqui gets to the very last layer. She finds out what's happened.
Jaqui: Who did this?
Carmel: No one.
Mercedes: You can't get shot if no one did it!
Carmel: It was a accident!
Jaqui: WHO SHOT YOU, CARMEL!
Carmel didn't want to say. She couldn't say. How would they react when they found out her fiance had actually shot her!

Max: Steph! Where are you!
Steph didn't answer. She was sat in their bedroom. Crying.
Max: Steph! I know you're here. I saw you.
Steph stayed quiet. Silently sobbing.
Max: (walking into the bedroom) Oh, Steph what's happened?
Steph: I can't do it! I cant. It's not fair!
Max: What's not fair?
Steph: Everything! I can't be happy. I'll never be happy again! I've done somthing horrible. Really, really horrible.
Max: I'm sure whatever it is, it won't be that bad.
Steph: But it is. Max I'm pregnant!
Max: (smiling) What! Really!? This is amazing!
Steph: No! (sobbing)
Max: (realising) But, how? We havn't done anything because my doctor said we shouldn't
Steph: (Crying) I'm so so sorry! I didn't mean to , it just happened. And we were drunk as well.
Max: (angry) Who was it!?
Steph: I'm not saying! Please Max, it isn't good for your heart!
Max: (grabbing Steph quite hard) WHO WAS IT!? WHO EVER IT WAS, I'M GONNA KILL THEM!
How could Steph say. If she did, Max would kill OB. His best mate. They wouldn't be best mates though. And it was all Steph's fault.

Steph: Max you’re hurting me. Please stop it.
Max: Tell me whose kid it is.
Max strengthened his grip. Steph didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t think. Why didn’t she just get an abortion and never mention it. She knew what she had to do. Lie.
Steph: I was raped! Ok! Raped!
Steph was appalled with herself. Why did she have to go and say that? Why couldn’t she just have left it, told Max it was OB’s and then maybe he could trust her, maybe then she could trust herself.
Max: (let go of her) Oh my god. Steph…
Max pulled her into a hug. Steph burst into tears. Not because she had to pretend, because she felt guilty about lying to the person she loved.
Max: When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me?
Steph: Just over a month ago. I… I didn’t know what to do. I was in total shock. I just bottled up my emotions. Then I was sick, and I was late. So I took a test. I didn’t want to look at the answer. Max I’m so, so sorry.
Max: What are you apologising for? It isn’t your fault. Come on, we’re going to the police.
Steph: No! Max it’s too late. I don’t even remember the night. I was quite drunk, but I remember I was forced to do it. I didn’t like it. I screamed but no one heard.
Max: Where were you?
Steph: You see. I don’t even remember that!

Carmel sat frozen. She couldn’t tell them anything. She didn’t know what to do. Get her boyfriend arrested, or lie. She couldn’t lie. If she lied then nothing good would come of it. She couldn’t tell the truth because then she’d feel bad on Calvin. She still loved Calvin, after what he did to her. She knew it was a mistake. He wouldn’t hurt her. He loved her. Or that’s what she thought…
She remembers that night as if it was only 10 minutes before…

FLASHBACK
Calvin: Carmel! What are you doing here so early?
Carmel: I thought I’d surprise you. Come on babe, we’re going out!
Calvin: Now? But, it’s my night off.
Carmel: Exactly! Babe, we never get to see each other anymore!
Calvin: I saw you yesterday.
Carmel: Yeah, but it wasn’t the same.
Calvin: Hang on then.
Calvin ran up to the bedroom. Carmel could here talking. She just thought it was Calvin talking to Sasha. She heard a moan. Calvin was hurrying whoever it was. Then he returned downstairs.
Calvin: Umm, right you ready to go.
Carmel: Yeah. Come on babe.
Within ten minutes they were at the park. It was empty completely. They went over and stayed in the shadows behind the trees. Soon, it was night. Calvin was glad about this, but completely frightened by what was coming next. He took out the gun while Carmel was looking the other way. She turned round. He hid it quickly.
Calvin: Carmel (stutter) You… you know I… I love you r… right?
Carmel: Babe. What’s up?
He took out the gun.
Carmel: Calvin… What are you doing?
Calvin: (crying) I’m so sorry. It isn’t my fault. I love you babe! I always will just remember that!
Carmel: Calvin you’re scaring me!
He pointed the gun at her
Carmel: Calvin! Stop! What are you doing?!
He pulled the trigger. Carmel felt a searing pain in her side. She’d been hit. Calvin broke down into tears. He hugged her. Carmel could barely move.
Calvin: (sobbing) I’m so sorry Carmel. Please forgive me! Princess, I love you! So sorry!
Carmel: (Gasping for breath) W… Why?
Calvin didn’t answer. He couldn’t answer. There was no he could answer without revealing what he was told not to reveal. But what Calvin never got an answer to, was why Amy wanted Carmel dead.

PRESENT
Carmel looked from Jaqui to Mercedes. Not knowing what to say.
Mercedes: Carmel! Answer her question!
She didn’t know what to do. Answer it or not?
Carmel: Ok… It was-

Carmel looked at them. She couldn't believe she was just about to tell them. She wasn't sure what to do. Say somthing or not. Say somthing and get her boyfriend arrested, or not...
Mercedes: It was??

Carmel didn't know what to say. She knew it was an accident, but she was in agony. She had to go to the hospital but he couldn't say who it was. She looked at her sisters. Jaqui had tears in her eyes. She looked like she was trying really hard to fight them back.
Jaqui: Please Carmel. Tell me who it was.
Carmel: It was...
Mercedes: (after a moments silence) Carmel, it's worse to keep it bottled up! Just tell us who it was.
Carmel: I did it. When i was practising with the gun. I shot myself. I was to ashamed to go to the hospital, and the bleeding had stopped so I just left it. Please just stop going on about it now.
Jaqui could tell her sister was lying. Carmel wasn't looking at them, she was looking anywhere but at them.
Carmel didn't know what to do though. She always knew the Jaqui can tell if anyone is lying so why did she just lie.
Jaqui: I'm gonna give you one last chance. Who shot you?
Oh my god. What do i do? Carmel thought.


Max: Come on. It's not to late to go to the police at all. If whoever it was told you not to go to the police then you should ignore them. I don't want whoever did this to get away with it. He hurt my girlfriend! And got her pregnant! Wait!
Max just realised somthing! Why hadn't he thought of it before!
Max: The baby! They can get the DNA from the baby to find out who the man who raped you was!
Steph: No Max! I don't want to go into to much detail about it. I only just got over it.
Max: I'm not hearing any of it. Come on let's go.
Steph: Max we can't...
Max: Give me one reason why!
Steph: Because... because i lied!
Max: (shocked) W..What... What do you mean you... you lied?
Steph: I'm so sorry Max. (Burst into tears) I, i don't know how it happened. We were really, really drunk and then I woke up next to him. We both completely regretted it. Nothing happened after. I swear Max noth-
Max: Who's is it?
Steph: W..What?
Max WHO'S BABY IS IT, STEPH!?!
Steph: Max he didn't mean it. Blame me, leave him out of it!
Max: STEPH!
Steph: (scared) OB... It's Ob's.
Max fealt like every cell in his body had stopped working. He went numb. The shock made his legs give way. He lay on the floor. OB?? My best mate. He wouldn't do that! Max felt a horrible pain in his chest. Like someone was stabbing him.
Max: (gasping for breath) Steph... steph my heart!
Steph looked shocked. She cried and rushed over to the phone and dialed 999. When it was ringing she just couldn't stop thinking that it was all her fault. She looked over at Max
Steph: Come on Max. They'll be here soon. Stay strong for me.
Max: You betrayed me. Call the... the ambulance then leave me.
Steph: I'm not leaving. I love you.
Max: W...Wish i could say the same.
And with that, Max's eyes closed making Steph cry even harder.

Carmel couldn't speak. Her mind had gone blank. Jaqui stared at her. Carmel knew that if she looked into her eyes then the glare would instantly make her tell the truth.
Mercedes went over to the kitchen and got the first aid box. She got an anteseptic wipe and started tending to Carmel's wound. Carmel screamed, the pain was agonising.
Mercedes: Sorry Carmel, but it could be really infected.
Jaqui: Carmel. Tell us who shot you. We won't do anything if you don't want us to.
Carmel looked at her eyes. That was a big mistake. Her mouth opened and she started talking without even realising.
Carmel: It wasn't his fault. He didn't mean to do it, i think maybe he's been blackmailed. He's so sorry. He was in tears and told me how much he loved me! And I love him to! Don't do anything! I love him!
Jaqui and Mercedes figure it out.
Mercedes: C..Calvin did this?
They stared at her. Carmel didn't reply she just stared at the floor. She hadn't actually said... they figured it out! But she still felt as though she wasn't going to see Calvin ever again.

Calvin returned from work. He didn't know how he was even waking up in the morning after what he did. He felt so guilty, but hopefully she knows he wouldn't hurt her unless he had to.

He got a shock when he saw Amy sat on the sofa.
Amy: Do you remember our little deal, Calvin?
Calvin: (clears his throat) Y.. yes.. I-
Amy: Well why did I just see Carmel walking down the road with Mercedes? Perfectly fine?
Calvin: I did do it! I definately did it. Please, i know i did it. Don't hurt -
Amy: Save it. You have until 2pm tomorrow to kill her. Otherwise, the deals off.
As she was walking away she kissed him. Calvin hated it, kissing a 16 year old. But she still did it. Then she licked her lips and left.

Steph told the ambulance where to go and hung up. She looked over at Max. He'd closed his eyes. Steph ran over and sat next to him, tears streaming from her eyes.
Steph: Max, please wake up! Don't leave me like this. I love you. Come on, wake up. If not for me then for Tom.
She sat with him and hugged him, waiting for the ambulance. When finally the ambulance arrived they lifted Max onto a stretcher. When they went out of the door, Dom was just coming out of Tony's flat.
Steph: (sobbing) Dom, Dom it's Max. He's had another heart attack. I don't know what to do... Will you pick Tom up from school?
Dom: (he hugged her) Steph, it's ok. He'll be ok. I'll pick Tom up from school. Go to the hospital. He'll be alright, i'm sure.
Steph: Thankyou.
Once they were at the hospital Steph was asked to wait in the waiting room. After about 2 hours a doctor came to speak to her. She was preparred for the worst.
Doctor: Stephanie Dean?
Steph: Yes, yes what's happened?
Doctor: I'm afraid -
Don't say it! Steph thought. Please don't say it!
Doctor: He's in a critical condition.
Steph let out a breath of relief.
Steph: What's happened?
Doctor: He had another heart attack and then another when he was in the operating room. We managed to get him into a stable position, but... but i'd be prepared for the worst.
Steph didn't know what to say. She was so upset. She burst into tears.
Steph: C..can.. can i s..see him!
Doctor: Yes. Follow me.
She walked into Max's room. He looked horrible. So pale and ill. If they hadn't already told her he was alive, then she would have thought he was dead. She went and sat next to him. She took his hand.
Steph: Max, I'm so sorry. I don't think you know how much I love you. I didn't know what I was doing that night. When I woke up and found out what i'd done, i was almost sick. That's why OB left, he wasn't going to but he did, because he slept with me. Max, i need you to forgive me. Please wake up and tell me you forgive me. Tell me you love me! I... I love you Max.

One hour later

Doctor: Steph?
Steph: Yes, is he ok?
Doctor: He is already improving an awful lot! He should be waking up very soon.
Steph: Thankyou, thankyou so much!
Steph looked back at Max. She grabbed his hand and kissed it.
Steph: (whispering) Max, please wake up!
She cried.
Max: (sleepily) You'd think someone was dying if they looked at you.
Steph looked up. She hugged him. Max pushed her away.
Max: No Steph. I don't want you here.
Steph: Max I am not leaving now. I love you way to much to leave you when you're in such a critical condition!
Max: If you aren't leaving then answer me this. Why would you do this to me? I heard you talking earlier. Telling me that you were really drunk and that you were almost sick when you found out you'd done it, but...
Steph: But what? I love you Max. I wouldn't ever have done that if I knew what I was doing. I couldn't ever do that to you.
Max: Well you did it didn't you! (getting angrier) You've Ruined Our Lives, AND YOU THINK YOU'LL BE FORGIVVEN BY APOLOGISING!
The machines starting bleeping.
Steph: Max calm down.
He did. He looked really hurt and Steph didn't understand how she could have done that to him. She gets really upset and cries. Max takes her hand. She looks at him, he quickly lets go.
Steph gets up to leave. She kissed him on the head and Max turns away.
Steph: I'll be back tomorrow. I Love you Max.
She walked out of the room. Max stayed silent. The door closed.
Max: (whispering) Love you too!
