Josh spun around in disbelief, he had been convinced someone had followed him on his way home, but hadn’t dared to look for fear that Mike Barnes had come to threaten him again. So he was surprised to find Amy standing behind him.
“Tell me it’s all a lie, I need to know the truth Josh, did you try to kill my dad?”
Josh had not seen Amy since his arrest following their attempt to run away, he couldn’t believe she still anted to talk to him. Slowly he led her to the Jubilee garden; nerves making his body shake uncontrollably.
“Amy, I......,” he stuttered as tears began to roll down his cheek and collect on the back of his shaking hand, “ i didn’t mean to do it, he just kept pushing me and I hit him to save myself, before he completely lost it. I’m so sorry Amy, if I could take it back...”
She didn’t know what to say, the words failed her as she struggled with what she had heard from the one person she truly trusted.
“Y... you hit him? Why Josh, why did you do it?” Amy finally responded after catching her breath back.
“He thought we slept together, he followed us to the woods and after you left he chased me back to the building site.” He explained.
“He...he...,” Josh choked on his word as he began to fight back his tears once again.
“He, what?” Amy sobbed.
“He, he pushed me to the ground and pinned me against the sand. Then he started to shout about us sleeping together and how I had blown my chance with him. Then he started to say such awful things about you Amy and i could take it, so I picked up the nearest thing and hit him with it.”
Amy gasped in horror, she knew her dad didn’t like Josh but to go this far as unbelievable, although he was right to have concerns, she thought as she pictured baby Leah in her mind.
“Josh,” she started, “my dad is right to have his concerns about me, there’s something you need to know...”

“Yes, please don’t be angry with me Josh, i just didn’t know how to tell you” she cried.
“Amy, i love you, all of you and Leah is a part of you, what made you think i would reject her?” Josh questioned.
“I don’t know, i just thought you wouldn’t want to be lumber with a slapper of a girlfriend and her baby.” She sniffed.
“You are NOT a slapper, Amy, don’t ever think that. You made a mistake; everyone does, but look what happened because of it. You, no we have a beautiful baby to love." He proclaimed.
Amy jumped up in excitement and swung her arms around him. Their deep embrace seemed to last for hours.
“Are you sure you want to be a father to somebody else’s child Josh?” she quizzed.
"Amy she is ours, blood or not we are her parents now, I want us to be a proper family.” He replied.

Nervously, Josh and Amy made their way to her house to tell her parents their news.
“Your dad is gonna kill me!” Josh panicked.
“Josh, nothing is going to happen to you, I’m more worried about mum, she’s has started to believe she is Leah’s mum, she won’t let me near her, no matter how much i want to be her mother. What if she won’t let us take Leah?” Amy began to sob as she became more worried about her mum’s reaction.
“We face this together,” Josh proclaimed as he pulled Amy into a tight embrace, “they can’t stop us being her parents, no one can”.

This was it. This was the moment that would change their lives for ever. Beads of sweat trickled down their foreheads as Amy opened the front door of the Barnes’ flat. Nervously they made their way through to the living room, where they encountered Mike, dozing on the sofa.
“Dad?” Amy whispered as she gently shook Mike Barnes awake. “DAD! I need to tell you something”
As Amy woke her dad, Josh made his way to Leah’s bedroom. Slowly he pulled the door back and wandered over to her cot. As soon as he saw her looking up at him, he instantly felt love. There was no doubt in his mind that she was his daughter; that he wanted to be her father. Carefully her picked her up from the cot and held her gently in his arms for the first time. After packing up both Amy and Leah’s belongings, Josh made his way into the living room.

“Amy, love, what is so important? Why did you wake...?” Mike paused as he caught sight of Josh holding his grand-daughter in his arms. “What the hell are you doing here? Take your grubby hands off my daughter”
“You can stop the lies Mike. Amy told me everything. ” Josh fired back. “ I love Amy and Leah and we are going to be a family. As far as I’m concerned, Leah is mine and Amy’s daughter and there’s nothing you can do to stop us from being together.”
“I’m sorry Dad, but we want to be with each other, you can’t stop us” Amy declared as she walked towards Josh. She collected her bags and they left, leaving Mike both upset and angry.
“YOU’LL REGRET THIS! THAT’S A PROMISE JOSH!” Mike bellowed as the front door slammed behind the young couple.
Happy at last, Josh and Amy strolled along to the Ashworth’s with Leah in tow.
“Are you sure your mum and dad will be OK with this Josh?” Amy asked. She knew that Suzanne Ashworth wasn’t her biggest fan and worried that she would reject the new family.
“Amy, as soon as they see how happy we are my parents would mind us living together. It won’t be for long. One day i will find us a home of our own where Leah can grow up.” He replied lovingly as her hugged both Amy and Leah close.

Nervously, Josh handed Leah over to Amy as he reached out to open the front door at the Ashworth's. He ushered Amy inside and collected the bags from the porch.
"Mum? Dad?" he shouted through the house. "Is anyone in?"
"Josh, love, is that you?" Suzanne asked as she made her way from the kitchen.
"Hi, Mrs Ashworth" Amy replied, shaking with every word. Shocked to see The couplestanding inthe doorway with Leah, Suzanne stuttered as she replied:
"Josh, I think you better tell me what's going on,now!"

Amy and Josh's faces fell to the ground, convinced she was going to say no.
"I'm not pleased about this at all, but it is clear to see that you two love each other. And, if you feel you are able to raise this baby together, you are welcome to stay here together, but there will be rules, you hear me?"
At this moment they both ran towards Suzanne and gave her the biggest hug and quite possibly the biggest shock ofher life.
"Thank you so much mum?" Josh beamed

"I think I do love,I think I do." she replied still entangled in their arms.
Josh hotfooted to his room with Amy and Leah’s belongings as Amy went to help Suzanne make a pot of tea. “What did your parents say about this arrangement Amy? Suzanne asked as Amy passed her the milk. “Dad flew off the handle and Mum doesn’t even know yet. She will lose it when she finds out I took Leah. She’s barely let near her since i asked her to look after Leah. I think she believes Leah is really her daughter. I don’t know what I’m going to do? Amy began to sob uncontrollably. “Don’t worry love; you and Leah are safe here.” Suzanne replied as she held Amy in her arms. MEANWHILE AT THE BARNES’.............. The front door slammed behind her as Kathy waded into the living room laden with shopping bags. “AMY! Is that you?” Mike shouted as her bounced out of his seat and into the hallway. “Mike, what is going on?” She replied. “Amy and Josh have got back together, and they’ve take Leah” He explained. As he went into more detail, Kathy slowly broke down until she was a wreck, lying in a heap on the ground with Mike consoling her. “NOOO! She can’t take my baby, she can’t, i won’t let her!” she screamed. Kathy quickly got to her feet and stormed out of the house and Mike followed. There was no way Amy was going to take away her baby.......
