That was about the only saving grace of BB4; each week it was fun to see what the theme was going to be and who would get in. Mind you, we had a live Sat night task then too (ahems). Loved that house and garden; pity about the HMs (except Tickle). Disappointed

By the way, was the bar and pub furniture used the other night in BBCH the same stuff used for the Irish pub in BB4? It looked awfully familiar. Ninja

Below is the post I made yesterday, which lots of people seemed to like. Smile

First of all I just want to say that this is really great of you to listen to what your fans want and if you will be taking on board some of the ideas then that is really awesome and I respect you and the team for that. I often get angry with Big Brother (more so in the last couple of series) but that's just because I really love this show and it has provided me with some great entertainment over the years and I really want the show to succeed and regain it's momentum, which I think we can all agree was tarnished during BB8.

Anyway here are my suggestions...

BB9 needs a totally reinvention of the format, style and tone of the show. Much like how BB5 totally reformed how we watched Big Brother after the dull BB4, it shot a new boost of life into the format and made it exciting to watch again. But the era of crazy, fame-hungry, wannabes has come to an abrupt halt, that era is dead and BB9 needs to create a new focus for the show. So here is what I think BB9 should entail:

1.Put the focus of the show on GAME-PLAY. Make the housemates work for their position in the house. Make having game plans, strategies and alliances a pivotal part of the show. Target people at the auditions that are really competitive, who want to win the show by any means necessary, find people who are not just their for 15 minutes of fame, but people who actually want to play the game and win the prize fund. Game-players aren't just one type of housemate, you have sly players, balls to the wall players, backstabbing players and nicey-nice players. Get a good mix and it could be great. But of course to make this work to it's full advantage, other rules will need changing, which leads me too...

2.ALLOW DISCUSSION OF NOMINATIONS – As I mentioned earlier, BB9 needs to be a totally different show, just like how BB5 was and what bigger rule to change than the one regarding nominations. Allowing nomination talk will ensure that people really do start playing the game, alliances will be formed left right and centre, housemates will be targeted, people will be backstabbed and strategies will be worked out. Also with nomination talk open, it allows for more exciting live feed footage, because as of right now in between tasks it can become quite boring with the housemates just lazing around, but when nominations can be discussed there will always be meddling going on. But of course other rules will have to be implemented so that one group doesn't just dominate the game, and how do you solve that problem?....simple,

3.WEEKLY LIVE HOUSE LEADER TASK – Bring back the live Saturday Night Tasks in some shape or form but this time really up the stakes. Adopting the idea from BBUSA, let the winner of the task become the House Leader for the week, with that position can come special privileges, immunity from nominations for that week, perhaps a king-size bed, personal items, luxury food budget etc. But also give that housemate some power over nominations, now this could be a whole range of things but the idea I thought was maybe, the House Leader after nominations, if they choose to do so, can replace one of the nominated housemates. So say that nominations take place on Monday, the results are announced on Monday evening and then the House Leader has 24 hours to decide what he/she wants to do, this would encourage strategies and game plans to change...then on the Tuesday evening the House Leader makes their decision and those two or more nominated housemates face the public vote and will be evicted as normal on the Friday. The thing is once these rules are in place they would have to stay the same for the entire series, you wouldn't be able to change them week after week because it would become too confusing. (Also the House Leader wouldn't be allowed to play in two House Leader Tasks in a row, this way it allows the game to change every week so that one team doesn't dominate the game).

4.CULL THE DULL – It's your own idea but I love it. For too long the floaters or 'boring housemates' have been allowed to just sail through the game right to the final week without giving us anything in terms of entertainment. So yes I think after a few weeks if there are housemates that BB and the viewers can clearly see aren't contributing they should automatically face the public vote. BB should choose the housemates not the viewers.

5.SERIES LONG TWIST – This is another idea incorporated from BBUSA, instead of doing lots of separate twists that usually involve messing with nominations and evictions, why not have a season long twist, kind of like a theme for the series. So this twist would be known to the viewers all series long and then is revealed to the housemates further down the line, maybe at the end of the show or at least a few weeks into the show. I don't have any actual ideas of what the twist could be, but BBUSA have had “The Ex-Factor” where a few of the housemates where joined by their ex partners for the entire series (well until they were evicted), that's a twist that lasts the entire run. Also they had “Summer of Secrets” were each housemate was playing the game with a secret partner, although each pair thought that they were the only pair playing the game, if a pair made it to the final two they won $1 Million. I think those kind of twists would work well because they are long lasting and not just thrown in for the sake of it, and with the BBUK unique twist to it it could be great.

6.VOTE TO SAVE – I think this is necessary now, most reality shows use this method and I know BB doesn't like to follow the herd but a vote to save would ensure that the more entertaining housemates stay in the house for longer. People can't be bothered to pick up the phone to evict a dull housemate so the more entertaining housemate they are up against usually ends up leaving, but if its a vote to save there would be little to no chance of the dull housemate surviving.

7.Lastly the show doesn't need to go 'back to basics' just as much as it doesn't need to have a 'huge over-the-top gimmicky twist', I believe what Big Brother needs is a shake up of the format and the theme, just as BB5 did. The Real BB is right, people will find 'back to basics' boring, BB needs to be going forwards not backwards.
What it needs is that element of competition, most of the really popular game-shows right now have lots of competition where the public can get really involved in and they like to see the best 'performer/player' win, that's what BB needs. I honestly believe that if BB9 was marketed as a game-playing series, we all know C4/BB can pull out all the stops when it comes to promoting a new series, they have been some brilliant advertising campaigns in the past...the “Big Brother Goes Evil” ones were amazing and got people really intrigued as to what the show would be like. So I think a big campaign like that would boost peoples interest, something like “Big Brother – The Rules All Change” or “Big Brother – Year Of The Game-Players” etc.

Obviously I don't expect you to take on all my ideas word for word but I think they are some really good concepts there, some you could really make work and that will totally refresh the format of Big Brother in a BIG way. I don't think I could stomach another series of promo-girls, models, Nuts Magazine-posing wannabes or nice-safe boy next door types who are afraid to express an opinion in case they get voted out. I want to see housemates who want to go in there to win, who are not afraid to speak up, who are intelligent and can form game plans and strategies.

(If you do want to take on all my ideas word for word, I am ready to be hired Big Grin)

Please can we have the weekly tasks back, giving them something to do and talk about. I still remember fondly Nick saying how good he would be on the obstacle course, and how miserably he failed!

This is a phenomenal post. And full of interesting ideas. Of course I am familiar with what's happening in the other BB houses round the world as you are so some of these ideas have worked very well in other places. (Every year we have a Big Brother convention where all the world's Big Brothers get together to discuss the show - but that's a whole other story). I really like the way you are thinking and it chimes with the things running around my head at the moment too. I'm afraid I can't go through everything on here but I can say that some of it is, shall we say, in the ether!
You are welcome to send in your CV if you like. No guarantees of course! Our team is pretty full up as it is.
Thanks

Hi The Real Big Brother! Wave

How about nominations as usual ie they nominate who they don't like...and we do vote to save...that way we get the chance to annoy the HM's ourselves so to speak if we want.

It also means the HM's are obliged to entertain us...and be OUR favourites not each others!

Seperate bedrooms for male and females, please all this fake romance for the media is doin' my head in....if it's 'true love' it won't matter which room they sleep in!

Chickens and veg patch would be a good idea too...make them responsible for something...if the veg dies they either don't eat or get punished.

I'd also like a 1 warning system and then punishments are dealt out....with NO exceptions...BB needs proper rules again IMO.

Last of all make the blighters 'earn' their prize money...make it more competitive...they keep us entertained and win tasks...they get rewarded they wimp out they get 'ziltch'

'Walkers' to sign a contract of no media interviews etc until at least the show is over...No cashing in on a 2 week holiday in BB...it mught stop all that 'I wannnna gooooo hoooommmee' rubbish!

No secret convo's allowed ie 'Chiggy' in the toilet...Why they weren't told to get outta there last year I shall never know and all the associated mic covering should have been punished as well IMO.

Any hoo tea time here now...hungry kids and all that! Wink

Thanks for listening! Cool

Right..here's my twopennn'th worth MKII (hhrrrumphh)are you sitting comfortably? then I shall begin.

a) Single people only please.

b) 20 - 50 age group

c) No nominations for first two weeks then 'cull the dull' whereby they are all up and we vote to save. Cull at least 3 and replace with newbies, no newbies after this though you cold chuck in a new face now and again with a specific task in mind just to keep things fresh and keep them on their toes.

d) No free rides to the final.

e) Show us ALL the nominations, even if it's just the name and reasons, no need for us to see them going to and from the DR.

f) No shopping list - winning or losing of tasks dictates their larder. If they have a basic menu give them a chance to win a few luxuries by doing fairly humiliating/boringly tedious mini tasks.

g) Give them a washing machine for goodness sake and a covered washing line (maybe with one of those gas heaters over it incase of a really inclement summer) - house looks such a pig sty with clothes around drying and can't be good for their health when so much is being washed.

h) Toilet rolls, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, cleaning products and washing powder given automatically on a weekly basis. Cigarettes should be supplied but rationed. Again mini 'evil' tasks to acquire or the choice of patches. Can't abide seeing them stressing over ciggies or begging for them.

i) No tasks which involve secrecy in the diary room, or at least tell us what is going on via the website. Live feed is extremely frustrating when your trying to work out what the devil is going on.

j) A choice of who to watch would be good.

k) More wide screen shots so we can watch people we are more interested in if the show is concentrating on someone we don't like, and especially if they are dancing/active or doing an assault course type task. Very frustrating when these things are shown in close up.

l) Violent or inappropriate behaviour/bullying. How about an intercom in one of the toilets that the housemates could use to name a fellow housemate who was getting out of hand - if the majority 'report' said housemate over a set period of time he/she could be sent to a sin bin/cooling off room. I suggested a toilet as it would have to be accessible somewhere they all go but not purposefully so it has an essence of privacy about it or it could cause more trouble if a person felt intimidated not to use the facility (intercom that is not loo). Once a housemate is sent there a 'court' is held (chaired by the house leader which I will come to later) and reasons are given for why the housemates behaviour is unacceptable which the 'sinner' listens too. He/she is then given a chance to redress/defend/apologise and the group decide whether to absolve/forgive/put up for eviction/evict immediately. I think this would have worked in the Emily/Charlie incident last year and the Emma/Victor fiasco a while back. Emily clearly did not realise how damning her word was and Charlie was not that concerned at first to the extent that she was fretting until the wee hours with concern for what would happen to Emily. This could have been resolved in a much more constructive way and lessons could have been learned both by Emily and the public.

m) Scrap the not allowed to discuss nominations rule. It's just ridiculous and the punishment is never across the board. Let them scheme and discuss it to their hearts content.

n) Every week all the names go in a hat and a house leader is picked out (can't be house leader again for the next two weeks) that person nominates up to 4 housemates for the public vote. He/She also gets perks, own en suite room, music on earphones, maybe a bit of their favourite tv, letter from home and can have one housemate join them.

o) More tasks that involve team work, more 24 hour tasks, more relay tasks where they all have to contribute to the best of their individual ability like the swimming one last year that was brilliant and certainly brought out different aspects of their characters - who would have thought the twins would have excelled in that? I think it changed a lot of opinions on them. This is what we need, more tasks designed to bring out their good and bad qualities in order for us to see more of their true selves.

p) Task idea - how about a ginormous hamster wheel whereby the housemates think they are generating the electricity to provide the hot water for the shower? It could work on a 'storage' principal whereby the more they run around in it the more they clock up quantity so they don't actually have to run in it for each shower.

q) Walkers - my personal pet hate. If a housemate asks to leave and after talking to BB and doing the 'sleep on it bit' still wants to leave then let them go. If however they choose to stay the next time they whine then just open the bloomin door and kick em out - No further coverage should be given to these pathetic whingers. Would put a stop to the likes of Ziggy and Channelle last year who would have benefited from a revolving door!

r) Could you also give the girls a screen to change behind in the bedroom? not really a need for them to have to get under their duvets is there? and give them a deeper bath so they can clean their bits and bobs thoroughly or could the bath have some sort of cover they could pull up just for a bit of privacy.

s) No promo girls/boys, no wannabies, no has beens, but we do like a bit of eye candy! though the boys are not usually on a par with the girls. They don't all have to be drop dead gorgeous would be nice to have some 'scrub up well' ones too. People who have studied at the university of life and bring some interest to the show, maybe homeless folk who have fallen on their luck? and please trawl a bit further afield, the West Country never seems to get a look in.

Well I think that was about it, more has been added since yesterday and you only have the hamster to blame.

Thanks for reading, I love BB and desperately want it to get back on track and be the entertainment show of the summer. Good luck. x

Thanks
BB

Thanks. It's good to hear that some of these ideas are running through your head, the format definitely needs a new spin on it for BB9.

BB1-4 was the very basic era, a show about human observation, living in basic conditions etc. And it was great, but by BB4 it ran dry.
BB5-8 was the extreme, extrovert character era. BB got evil and the housemates became fame seekers and again it worked brilliantly, but now that has also ran dry.

So I think the next step to take is one focused on game play, I think BBUK could make that work very well.

Also where do I send my CV? Big Grin

a) Single people only please.

b) 20 - 50 age group

c) No nominations for first two weeks then 'cull the dull' whereby they are all up and we vote to save.

This is what we need, more tasks designed to bring out their good and bad qualities in order for us to see more of their true selves.

p) Task idea - how about a ginormous hamster wheel whereby the housem
