I didnt see all of the series, but what I saw was very interesting.
The mixed backgrounds, the mixed preconceptions of what monastic life would be like...
And the big thing was - it affected people who didnt think it would. They thought it was going to be the stereotypical out of touch with reality religion. (see the section on Tony's story from the website)
These 5 guys were 'thrown' into this peaceful quiet place and they had time to think...something which I feel society has lost touch with. The world is SO busy...we just dont take time out. When we do it changes us, it changes our perceptions of ourselves and those around us.
To many the thought of there being a God, or there being a spiritual side to your whole being is just something people dont want to take the time to think about. People think they have all the answers given to them by others in science etc, and that this is all they need to know but the concept of God is something different. You can be told who God is, but to know who God is and how it affects you and your life and attitudes takes time..and takes time out of world to find out the answers. And to find out the answers about yourself.
