Hi Peter,

As a british muslim myself, I would like to know what kind of impact this programme had on its non muslim audience, as many of the issues described are already well known to majority of muslim britz.

Some sort of after air research would be interesting.

Kind Regards

Curious

The acting was superb - an excellent drama.

I sincerely hope that it was completely ficticious but unfortunately the audio at the end has served to make us believe that you were sending a message.

To all the British Muslims who are on this forum from a white British non-muslim ...

Guess what?

The majority of us agree with you.

The majority of us disagree with Blair and Bush (that may sound strange since Blair was elected .. but look at the alternatives closely and it starts to make sense).

We also believe that the USA is the enemy.

We hate what has been done to Iraq.

We're saying the same things as you.

We hate the way the police can treat muslims and other non white British people.

BUT

We are also terrified of you. We're scared of people who can terrorise and kill (white.. black.. muslim ... anyone who does this)

We don't understand why you feel that you will ever achieve understanding by continuing to have suicide bombers and by blowing up people, buses/underground stations/tower blocks.

Dramas like this push us further apart rather than increase sympathy.

Why not ..

Gain our support, talk to us, listen to us - don't separate yourselves and scare us - we're saying the same things as you. Get together with the normal white Brit who actual understands and AGREES with you.

Eventually the government will have to listen because we'll all be on the same side.

Im a white woman of irish decent - Ive seen this before, I know how people, families, communities become divided.

Hi curious 2727, I live in an area where it is mainly muslim - I see how the minority who are white disrespect the muslim community, I see there are many problems but it is definatly us as whites who have to start with respect towards our neighbours, we at the grassroots have to find a way to come together. This is not an easy task we have many divisions to cross...

I'm not on your side dopey, don't forget that a lot of people (like me) are staunch supporters of the allied effort in Iraq to create a safer world. If I ever got a chance to send a message to Bush it would be "keep up the good work George! The silent majority is right behind you!" (and don't listen to dopeys like Voodoo who are just a bit immature and naive).

I am well aware that the subject of this excellent drama is an emotive subject as we have already seen from some of the posts. However I would like to thank the producers, writers etc for handling the topic with such sensitivity and craft. The pace was perfect and the comparison between the brother and the sister, both leading secret lives due to their beliefs was a brilliant idea.

Some thoughts occur to me having just finished watching. The first being around my own curiousity. If Nas had decided not to go ahead would she really have been allowed back in to society with the knowledge she had? Secondly where do the bodies come from that fake these people's deaths? On a wider issue it makes me think about the next generation British born of our current immigrants. The reason being that we seem impossibly slow in this country to learn. A lot of these situations, and not just the extreme ones we have seen, but the every day ignorance etc that is shown goes on every day. When Nas is asked whether she knows of any political action that has had an effect on legislation she is dumbstruck. Look how long it took for civil rights to be heard in America and not before many atrocities were carried out. The government has a joint responsibility along with individuals to educate us, not just children but all of us. Other cultures enrich our country. They contribute to our economy, our art, our cusine, our history etc. Why oh why are we still stuck in this imperial colonial mentality? For such a small island we have done extremely well but that has brought with it such arrogance and fear of losing it. Each country has it's journey and we can't stand still. We can protect our history and land marks etc but that is what it is - glorious HISTORY. Move on England or you will become extinct.

In response to a few posts I would say that enough has been televised about the religious motives behind suicide bombers and Nas says towards the end 'that is not why I'm doing it'. As for inspiring would be martyrs, I think it unlikely. Nas was extremely vulnerable and desperate having just lost her best friend and, for all she knew, the love of her life not to mention frustrated by what she saw around her. But all those factors need to be present as well as the circumstances e.g. the group that she joined etc. But maybe I am being naive and if so I apologise.

I do not condone the action of any radical group either 'eyeswideopen' however I think perhaps you missed the point that these people were not asylum seekers. Oh and by the way white people are NOT a minority in Britain and are you including Polish, French, German, Italian etc in that description?

I also believe Nas agreed to go to Pakistan as she was already 'on the road' to radical thinking and knew she could investigate matters further when she got there.

As for the end - very powerful. It should make us sit up and take notice. Ironicaly enough most every religion I know of advocates empathy. I feel that includes doing something for our fellow beings every day however small. Smiling at someone can make a difference to that persons life. Being passive is not being alive. I for one try to take every opportunity I can to educate those around me about difference without being a bore. I guess the question is what will you do?

a good ppoint but I don't know why people are so concerned. this country has a long history of being invaded & colonised by almost every other country in europe and one or two from farther afield.
It will just adapt I expect like it usually does. I don't think extinction is on the cards, just more change.

Cheers

Let's talk a little about being naive!

There were no weapons of mass destruction - none were found!

American intelligence for occupation of Iraq came from a copy of a 1992 Lonely Planets Guide to Iraq!

America had no (realistic) plan for how to restore law, order, water, electricity, political structure, etc after they had gone in and blasted everything to bits! American soldiers just stood by as Iraqui's looted - they did not have the manpower to restore order.

Many innocent civilian lives were lost - innocent people - people who had nothing to do with 9/11!

Let's face it, the whole area is full of OIL - it wouldn't have appeared on the American radar without it.

Most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi's.

Your darling George Bush has heavy economic interests in various munition firms (that have received massive contracts as a result). Also, 7% of the American economy is financed by Saudi Arabia. Perhaps after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in the early 90's - the Saudi's may have been the next under threat - Saudi's and Bush's spend a lot of time shaking hands - even Prince Charles welcomed the Saudi King to England this week!

The Iraqui war has pushed more fundamentalists into terrorist cells - so much for making a more peaceful world!

Don't get me wrong, I love America and I love Britain - but this war with Iraq was the wrong action - misplaced and should have consulted experts from other country's - but they were too hasty in making someone pay for 9/11!

Tell me a little more about the word naive?
