A humanzee is a cross between a human and a chimp. no known humanzee hasever existed. It was speculated that Oliver the chimp is a humanzee, but genetics proved he is just an unusual chimp, possibly a subspecies.
Anyway, this link discusses whether or not it is possible to crossbreed a human and a chimp (the assumption seems to be yes, but only sterile offspring)
http://www.prometheussociety.org/articles/DaCapo.html Anyway, it got me thinking about the subject, its a pretty interesting one. what would the moral and scientific implications be? would it provide more hard evidence for evolution or not?
all the links discussing it talk about creating a race of workers or soldiers, which is far fetched and silly , to be honest.
what bothered me is that the link discusses teaching the hypothetical creature one of the main religions and asking it if it felt it had a soul.
I mean, first - why is it assumed religion and morals go hand in hand, and why would a being be treated like an animal. would we have to give one human rights as it is 50% human, or treat it like an animal, keep it locked up and expose it to degrading experiments like teaching it religion and asking it searching questions that might upset it?
Ok so its all a bit far fetched, BUT does seem to be in the realms of science and does raise a whole host of questions, some of which, say more about ourselves than the animal kingdom.
