Peace and blessings to anybody reading this.

This maybe risky, as I might be labeled as a "extremist" or a "terror suspect" but I am proud to be a fundamentalist when it comes to my 'religion' which (all praise due to Allah) happens to be Islam.

I was very surprised at the attitude of the young brothers and some of the young sisters on the show. Also surprised at some of the answers given by the Imam and the female on the panel.

Moderate muslim??: Can somebody explain this to me please.

As a muslim, when I give daw'ah I am proud to highlight the fact that a) the Qur'an hasn't been tampered with and b) we have the sunnah to follow. Trying to modernize the teachings within both of these would essentially change Islam.

I felt the Sheikh was trying very hard to give real advice but was holding back at the risk of being told he was to fundamental. For example, one of the sisters explained that her job involved alcohol and how could she work within this job without it being haraam. If she doesn't drink the alcohol she has not sinned, yes. But as a muslim, why would you want to surround yourself with this type of activity? "Oh I live in New York/London, its all around us." Is no excuse. We have to chose the company we keep and chose the places we spend our time in. The brother talking about rock and roll. How are you going to be muslim and be in a band which promotes sex, drugs and alcohol. And when the brother asked about physical contact with a sister, the Sheikh referred to one hadith and then the brother tried to argue and disagreed?? Disagreed with the Prophet sallalahu aleyei wa salem!!

I don't want to drag on. I apologise for this writing being all over the place as I didn't really plan what I was going to say I just wrote.

I would just like to hear how other people saw this Shariah TV discussion.

Just watch todays show. A muslim should NOT serve in the US or British military. If you are fighting to impose the laws of man, you are not a muslim.

I watched it last night and all Ive found is people who have NO knowledge of the religion whatsoever and unfortunately this includes most of the panel of scholars. The panel is always made up of two so called scholars who have interpreted the religion to suit their whims and desires and one scholar who will either be near the true reflection of the relgion but wont give his/her real opinion just in case they are labelled as extreme.

It angers me that these scholars give alleged Islamic opinions which undermine the hundreds of years of work done by the REAL scholars i.e Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi, Imam Hanibal etc. Whats more they give opinions which go against the consensus of the scholars and even worse is that they seem to forget that we understand the relgion on how the companioins (ra) understood the Quran and the sunnah (the traditions of the prophet) not on our own logical interpretations

For example when they were asked about shaking hands with the opposite even though one panel member said it was not allowed the other two seemed to think it was ok, where as it is indicated by the report-

narrated by al-Bukhaari (4891) and Muslim (1866) from Aaishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) who said: By Allaah, the hand of (the Prophet) (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman when accepting the oath of allegiance. When he accepted a womans oath of allegiance he said: Go, for I have accepted your oath of allegiance.

This was the infallible one, the best of mankind, the leader of the sons of Adam (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him); he never touched women although the basic principle concerning the oath of allegiance is that it should be done with a handshake. So how about other men?

It was narrated that Umaymah, the daughter of Raqeeqah, said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: I do not shake hands with women. Narrated by al-Nasaai (4181) and Ibn Maajah (2874); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami (2513).

It was narrated from Maqil ibn Yasaar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: If one of you were to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle, that would be better for him than touching a woman who is not permissible for him. Narrated by al-Tabaraani; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami (no. 5045).

This clearly shows that it is haraam!!

Furthermore they said it was ok to date as long as you do it in public. Have they forgotten about the requirement of a mahram, the restrictions and conditions of free mixing etc???

I can only conclude that this is just another ploy to fool the masses and push the agenda of modernising and diluting Allahs beautiful relgion!!

And Allah knows best.

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu.

To my brothers & sisters in islaam for their replys & may Allah enable them to continue doing so.

As for me, i don't know where to start with the criticism, so rather than rant on, i would request channel4 cancel this programme as i have yet to see anyone of reputable knowledge of the religion or of the arabic language, so far the recent people have been thoroughly lacking nor do they have what i consider to be "real" fear of Allah so that when they speak about the religion they are able to guide both muslims as well as non-muslims.

They should be afraid to speak the truth, whoever likes it like s it & if they don't then they don't, clearly to me whoever is behid asking for these people to come on the show & sit on the panel of "scholars" has an agenda to misrepresent islaam.

I personally find it sickening to the point that it physically hurts me, if the proper students of knowledge cannot be found to represent to the religion then this show is of no benefit to either muslims or non-muslims cause until then, we will continually be bombarded by weak, watered down & religiously baseless answers which have not been preceeded upon.

It's clear that the panel is selected to make sure a certain message is brought out. Some of the panelists while being called experts on Islam fail to use the Quran or Hadiths when trying to justify a certain opinion. My problem with Sharia TV is it always seems to want to promote a secular Islam. I dont mind hearing arguments from secular muslims but at the same time it would be fair if someone who didnt promote that was also allowed to present there argument.

In the first 3 episodes we have had muslims saying its ok to fight in the military against muslims and not one panelist argued otherwise. One women argued whether the Iraq war was just but still failed to answer the question from an Islamic perspective.

I saw the program Sharia TV on Channel 4 in July 2008

It was simply an attempt to make muslims appear backwards and barbaric.

The presenter was a silly girl who mostly asked irrelevant questions.

She also kept changing the subject when she was taken head on about her own brainwashing.

If Channel 4 was serious about finding out about muslim teachings and islamic law then they would have set up a proper format and invited some serious religious scholars rather than some tin-pot semi-militant hot heads to give answers to stupid questions.

Most of these "muslim imams", or clerics, that appear on TV do not represent muslims and they do not fully understand the Muslims religious texts.

Either TV should do a proper job, or continue in these type of anti-muslim campaigns.

"Sharia TV" is an example of our media's total disregard for a major ethnic minority faith.
