Gateshead has the Angel of the North, Manchester has a 56-metre tall sculpture called B of the Bang and London is to get a giant table and chair.
Measuring the size of the average British house, the sculpture is to go on show on Hampstead Heath.
Entitled The Writer, the outdoor furniture is made from six tons of steel and 1,000lbs of wood.
Its creator, former Italian football player-turned-artist Giancarlo Neri, has described it as "a monument to the loneliness of writing".
Its new location is fitting because writers such as DH Lawrence wrote nearby, while poets Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats took walks on the north London heath.
Catherine McGuinness, from the Corporation of London, is hoping the sculpture will inspire thousands of visitors to the heath.
"This summer The Writer is going to remind us of the Heath's hidden heroes - and hopefully inspire more people to put pen to paper," she said.
The creation has already been seen in Rome where it was used as giant goalposts and as a shelter from the sun.
"My work is often referred to as a sculpture but I try to turn the entire environment into a work of art," the artist said.
The sculpture will be on display in Parliament Hill for four months from June 22.
I think it sounds fun! There should be more sculpture in public spaces even if it's only temporary like this. It makes people more aware of their environment, the shapes around them and how they interact with the space.
