I often buy things online, and some of them are delivered by Royal Mail.
However, I always seem to miss the deliveries, even if I'm at home, and have to collect from their depot some miles away.
Yesterday, I discovered why.
I heard the post come through the letter box, went straight to collect it, and found a "Sorry, you were out" card on the mat.
Went outside, found the postman two doors away, and asked him for my parcel.
He didn't have it with him.
When I went to collect my parcel today, there was a queue of people with "Sorry, you were out" cards. Several of them said they couldn't understand how they missed their deliveries, because they were at home at the time on the card.

Make of that what you will.
Stop messing around and answer the door a bit quicker then, people don't have all day to wait on you, they have a job to do.
Sounds to me like some posties have decided to leave the parcels at home to ease their day.
See, I've taken in parcels from Royal Mail for neighbours before, as have they for me. What the postmen in my area will tend to do is try a neighbour first because that saves them having to return things to the depot and do whatever extra paperwork required when they do that. The more things they can get rid of the less they have to do at the end of their shift.
So these guys look like they are not even taking the parcels out with them, so saving their time at the end of a shift.
I would make a written complaint to the depot because although managers are doubtless aware it is going on they won't do anything about it if they are not hearing any complaints.
It has happened to me very naughty, in fact when I rang 5 minutes later to say I was in and that the nobody knocked they said I couldn't of been and maybe I was a bit deaf.
I said I am not deaf deaf, because how come I knew he didnt knock, the conversation became a little bit surreal after that. I wondered too myself why do they do that.
report it. I was waiting for a purchase.....special delivery....before 1pm....well 1pm came and went....I put a complaint in to the seller and ebay .....the delivery arrived an hour late....local postie thought he would save delivery man the bother of driving to deliver it. Real chancers and I know we need to complain to get the services we are paying for or we will end up with the service we deserve.

Ah, obviously a postman who is not only incapable of reading addresses, but other peoples' posts too.
Could you not understand that the postman didn't have the parcel with him? Wouldn't have made any difference if he'd been waiting, door open, to greet him.
We actually have the opposite problem.
The other half is a manic ebayer, so every day there is a clutch of jiffy bags and packages, usually sent recorded delivery.
If it's possible to cruch up the package, it's rammed through the letterbox (especially if it has a "do not bend" sticker on it), and anything bulkier is left outside, under the doormat. As a token gesture, he takes the lid off the dustbin, and puts over the package/doormat, just in case any pilferer hadn't already noticed.
We would prefer to collect these from a delivery office, but have been told that this is not possible without a p o box number.
The only course of action is start claiming for non-delivery for all the recorded stuff for which they will not have obtained a signature.
It's what happens when you put a footballer in charge of a public service.

Yesterday, I was up at 6.30 am, my postman arrived at 8.30am, parked his bike just outside my house as he always does (I'm the last house in the row) took his mail for delivery to the other 10 houses and when I looked into the hall nothing for me...........but when I went to take the dog out I found a "Package to be signed for" card scrunched in the letter box.
I have a doorbell with a very loud ring, and I know he didn't knock. Clearly, it is something they all do now. Very annoying.
I received a card yesterday and drove the 12 mile round trip to collect it this morning, only to find when I got home that it fitted through the letterbox, when I boned the postman he said it was delivered by van.

you need to contact your local delivery depot and report it. if it happens again, take it higher. it used to happen here too, but it doesn't anymore. our new postman is fantastic. he doesn't bring parcels first time, he knocks to see if you are in and he then does a parcel run later on in his car. he says they have so many "freebies" to deliver these days it's gettin horrendous.
