Channel 4 has good program ideas, so why does it spoil them bein thinking we`re totally stupid?
For example tonights episode.. do you relly expect us to believe she met the comunity lady (sabrina i think she was called) and the drama scool lady by working in a cafe. Are we supposed to believe she got into their lives by coincidence. These people were "Planted". Stop conning us Channel4. We`re not all brainwashed Lemmings!!
For the most part of the programme I kept wondering if it was all contrived and that the people met at least had an inkling of what it was about. Why did they think that a camera would be following a supposedly 'ordinary' woman asking so many questions about their lives and financial circumstances? That's the cynical side.
However, I still felt the emotion at the end and believed that to be real. And the bottom line is that this is full of good intentions, helping in the right way for all the right reasons. All those on the receiving end of the kind help offered were thoroughly deserving. A warm heart and a good feeling replaced the cynicism at the end.
I agree with feelgood on the point he/she made regarding the cameras following the 'secret' millionaire around.
There is no doubt that the recipients were all worthy candidates, but I thought the gifts could have been made in a more tactful way. Why not present the money anonymously as well, instead of in person, expecting to be applauded/fawned over etc. Why did the millionaire take it upon herself to purchase each recipient a property? Did she not think they might like to have some choice in where they might live?
The young family, I noted, were given a property where she had made an £80k downpayment. That was very generous, but how did she expect them to pay the remaining £420k of the purchase price? And did they really need to go from all sleeping in one room to a half-million pound home?
the programme is great...its nice to know that the millionaires who are taking part know that there are people out there that are struggling with day to day life.its very generous of them to give people there also hard earned money. if i was a millionaire (i wish)i would do the same. it has me in tears everytime i watch it.
I thought exactly the same as you. I could only come up with the following - Intrest only mortgage would still be very high. They could sell it on and at the time of filming was last year so they could have sold it when properties were going for silly money giving them lot's of equity.
