Its a lovely show and so great that the millionaires are in a position to help some very deserving people, with regards to the other posts re this show i dont think it really matters how she met the people she helped, but I totally agree with one of the points raised - how on earth will they afford to pay the huge mortgages on their new properties?? Culture Ed -are you able to tell us?
Oh come on, £20 grand a month on 'nici-nackies, I dont think so. Worth £15m eh or has £15 m of assets and loans/mortgages to match. So, a few bob to send some kids to enjoy a stage school with 'her daughter?' and a couple of risk free secured deposits on properties her subjects don't have a hopes chance in hell to afford, mind you shes going to 'show them how' Please no more pulling wool over the viewers eyes and no follow ups that she was fishing for. Thank god for Gordon R, at least with him you see what you get.
I must admit after watching this programme i felt sorry for Sabrina and her famliy as i cant see she and her husband will ever be able to pay a 420k mortgage!! I suppose the thought was there..but i felt it was building them up for a hugh fall!!!
I watched the last series and enjoyed it very much and last night lived upto the last series almost. How can it be "REAL" if a supposedly struggling family can afford a £420 mortgage. Can someone please axplain to us all!!
What would have been wrong with buying them a cheaper property and making sure they had no mortgage to worry about....surely that would have been a better solution.....Who says you need 500k house to be happy!!!
I agree. I love the programme, but can't see any point in paying a deposit on an expensive property. How on earth can that be a help? I'm struggling with a £40,000 mortgage, so can't imagine a £420,000 one. Is there some additional gift they didn't tell us about? An outright gift of a cheaper property would be a genuine help, but what must a person be earning to take on that kind of mortgage?
I think some facts were miss told last night. Gill makes her money from buying 'investment properties', eg, expensive apartments, and then resnting them out, and lives off the proceeds. So the two properties were not for the recipients to live in, but for rich people to live in, and the rent would pay the mortgage and supposedly leave enough money over for a better life. I think this is a crazy way of 'helping people' but that is what Gill knows about.
Although I enjoyed the programme, I have to say that I felt incredibly uncomfortable with it. Watch very poor people being given a load of money from somone who has pretended to be a friend for week. The deceit is acceptable because they are off-loading money. Purely a show to make viewers cry.
love the programme but was very surprised to hear that the "secret millionaire" would be giving away nearly £250k .... this seemed a lot more than I recall in the previous series .... what I would like to know (and maybe someone from the programme could respond), is how is Sabrina (and her partner?) going to able to afford a £420k mortgage. Surely if they could they would not be in the position they are. Likewise the dance school teacher (though can't remember the amounts there). I really can't see the point of doing something which is unrealistic.
I take your point, that the programme makers should have dealt with the issue of the large mortgage/expensive property probably reassuring people like you at the end of the programme, however I see it differently to most of you guys........
You are right, Gill has made her money by investing in property, often doing it up and renting it out to people who want to rent.
If you had listened carefully to the programme, a)at the begining, it showed that she now spends quite alot of time helping others to make money from property, and b)she said to the dance school lady's husband when she gave the property over, that she would help them to make the money to support it. I'm sure Gill will train/help/support/coach Sebrina to do the same (and by doing so, Sabrina will probably spread the word and help others even more than she is doing so already!). Gill is obviously not the sort of person to saddle people with a huge amount of unservicable debt, come on!!
What is it about our country and culture which makes everyone so negative! Even someone like Gill (and I'm sure the rest of the millionaires we haven't seen yet) donates their own time and money to people you guys can only look for the negatives!
I for one feel she did it very responsibly and if there were more entrepreneurs instead of 'dream-stealers' then the UK may be in a better position economically. Gill should be celebrated, congratulated and eminated, not shot down.
I am a 38 year old single Mum of 2 who, as sad as it may sound, is really happy with my lot. I'm self employed, and although I have very little money, I do have the luxury of something a lot of employed people don't always have - time. Time, that is, to spend with my children (if they are ill or have school holidays it's great not having to try to make 25 days off a year stretch to accomodate everything.........)
I have had many a "what if" discussion with people regarding the millionaire thing. I'm thoroughly ashamed to say that my incredibly selfish reply has always been "I don't need a million - I'm happy as I am". However, having watched "The Secret Millionaire" last night for the first time I have been awakened to the fact that having lots of money doesn't necessarily have to be about "me" and "my needs". I have so much admiration for the people who are being shown on TSM as well as those who experience similar situations in day to day life and have realised that if I was a millionaire, I could help other people so much and make a real difference to their lives which is an amazing thing to be able to do. I feel I need to do something more - not for myself but so I can help other people in the same way the people featured on this fabulous documentary do. I have a new goal, and for that, channel 4, I thank you. XXX
The disappointing thing was the way the secret millionaire made her millions, by selling books and running seminars on how to become a millionaire. Sound familiar ? Yes, thats right, its like being famous for no other purpose than to let other people project their mindless fantasies about being famous onto you. In other words a c.., no i won't say con. oh blow i've said it.
I loved the programme, but couldn't help wonder if she laid down £80,000.00 on a house which was £500,000.00, how are they supposed to keep up the payments?? I know she's offered to teach them how to be rich, but will it work? There's nothing worse than having something pulled from under your feet!
I just love this show - the goodness in it makes me cry and realise how lucky I am and how I, in my small way, can help those less fortunate than myself (and I'm certainly no millionaire). God bless you Chek and all the other millionaires for what you are doing. People must realise you don't have to do this.
Hi, does anyone know what the piano music is that was played during serious bits of the show last night(Chek whyte's!). Its not the Jakata American dreams one, its a different song. Been trying to find it every where!!
This sounds extremely mean spirited, but does anyone else consider the amounts that these "millionaires" give out to be trifling? Is there a "cap" on the amount they are allowed to hand over? I find it rather funny when these chaps reveal they are worth millions and then hand over (as the guy did last night) £8,000. Perhaps there is a reason why - perhaps someone can enlighten me please?
you must be kidding me, after last night, i am disgusted, shocking editing! awful view of wonderful places, help all you want (whilst enjoying the tax relief) but do not totally destroy peoples ideas of an area in the meantime!
