Jericho????!!! God ordered the slaughter of every woman child and living creature.
Do you realise that those Jerichoans would be dead by now anyway?
Do you realise that they may have died quickly?
Do you realise that we are speaking about a very different time? Go back 100 years in this country and you would find a very different culture, way of life etc etc? Try going back several thousands of years to the Middle-East and you'd find something very different to what we see now!
Go back to 1914-1918 or 1939-1945 - man is far more capable of killing on an unprecidented scale! Or try Communist Russia or China for a template of humanist/secular control!
Want something more recent; well try America and their quest to control oil in the Middle-East, Mugabe, Rwanda genocide, former Yugoslavia, etc etc!
Man's killing of the un-born...
If Dawkins gives his vitriol about God the way he does; what would his assessment be about man I wonder... he'd be pontificating and loosing his cool for hours, in a far more poisonous speach? From a hushed Atheist audience?

Question: in the bible, how many deaths is god responsible for? How many is Stan responsible for?
That's an easy one, Hes: Stan is responsible for all of them.
Sorry, wrong answer. Go back and read that bible again. And don't come back until you know the stuff.
No, the Woolf Man is rarely wrong on biblical matters. I think that you will find, even within the first couple of pages, that man was created to live a life of companionship: It was only when the Prince of Darkness screwed things up that people started to die.
QED.
Incidentally: Those guys from Jericho: They had it coming.
What time is it, Mr Woolf? Time to mend your ways, for the end is nigh.

It was a tough time. Giants walked the earth. And the nephilim were around too. Not to mention the Prince of Darkness et al. Even god would take a stroll around the garden of Eden in those days. It was a bit like the bar scene in Star Wars, I guess. There were even talking snakes and magic trees. Then people sarted to die. It must have been a shocking experience for them. Adam's kids went: Daddy, wake up. But he was dead. Must have been terrible.
Sorry if it spooks you, but these genuinely are my beliefs. Thing about the Jerichoans (Is there such a word?) is that they, just like all of you atheists around here, deny the power and the majesty of God. Just supposing that you had given life and breath to every living thing, and to some, you had given special abilities and understanding: And a bunch of these guys then use their "God - given" gifts to mock and deny His authority. Meanwhile, the team who are on your side....well, you might just think to let them beat up on the unbelievers, mightn't you? Just a little something to confirm in their hearts and minds that those who follow God are looked after, and those who openly mock Him.... Well, you just don't want to go there.
What time is it, Mr Woolf? Time to mend your ways, for the end is nigh.

But your god created Stan, so that makes your god responsible. If I created a robot and it went screwy, launched itself on a murder, death, kill spree and hacked up a bunch of people, I'd be responsible.

Indeed. He's the best friend religion has ever had.

I think most of us do realise that people who lived thousands of years ago would indeed be dead by now. What has the speed of their death go to do with the issue of them being killed by your (loving) god.

And what does that have to do with your god killing people?

Yes, so what. The question was about deaths attributable to your god and stan.

Asa: I don't think that anyone imagines that you could ever be responsible.
I'm sure you could manage it. Afterall, you've imagined a supreme being into existence in your own mind.

Although I am an athiest, I respect the right to individual belief - it is one of the things that makes life so interesting.
If I did believe in a god or gods I would not be impressed if my god thought that he needed religious "leaders" marketing their poxy little churches for their own gratification and self importance. My god would despair at those ill informed religious "experts" who thought that they knew him better than others and who were prepared to push their dogma forecably in an effort to dominate and be all powerful. My God would believe that only he is all powerful and that the church and its human ideas and rules is false idolatory.
- that, my friends is why organised religion should be regarded by all those who believe in a higher spirit, is the work of beast.
The thoughts of Chairman Al.
If a man takes no thought about what is distant, he will find sorrow near at hand.
So, anyways, these guys who God allowed His chosen people to beat up: They were the kind of people who worship boulders and sacrifice newborn babies to ensure good rainfall for the season. There exists on at least one occasion the situation where God specifically instructed His people to destroy utterly such a wicked people, and they failed to follow God's word: Subsequently, said wicked people returned to bite the hand which spared them. Who's sorry, now?

They worship boulders instead of a sky pixie? Kill them all, I say. Burn their altars, destroy their cities. Woolfie, you don't need to argue. It's so clear. Kill them all. Of course. Who would disagree? Off with their heads!
