Its the paradoxes which time travel would probably incur which I find most perplexing to think on. Some of those really do your head in.

You should definitely watch Primer... Wink

Absolutely! You introduced me to it on this very forum.

And, Silent Running (mentioned above). God, I love this film. It had me in stitches first time round. A cult cracker!

Mad!

Yeah, it's definitely not one for casual viewing.

I was particularly interested in the physical effects the two protagonists suffer as a result of all the meddling. e.g. their trouble writing, the way they feel removed from reality.

I shall have to watch it again soon.

(Bought the DVD when it came out on a whim. Well worth it!)

yes - this was good - one definition of a primer is a sequence of DNA or RNA from which replication can initiate. this could be seen as implying that as the copies of themselves multiply the quality erodes, or changes. haven't seen this film in a while: i'll have to get it out on rental and refresh my memory... ot rescramble my brain...

Interesting premise.

Read a few books dealing with that situation.

Some great films in this thread.
I'll add my 2 penneth.
I found AVP quite entertaining.
But no SF list is complete without War of the Worlds (IMHO), both versions.

I haven't seen the new version. The 50's one was OK.

The book is great, and the Jeff Wayne concept album is fantastic.

.

The new version has some brilliant effects and the storyline stays very close to the original version.
I like the original mainly because of the history behind it. When it was first broadcast on american radio it is said to have caused mass panick because people thought it was real.
A classic (IMHO).

Apart from the ones already mentioned, I must add Brazil. I rather like my science fiction to be a satire of the present. This, I think is Gilliam's finest moment - better than Twelve Monkeys.

I remember the first time I saw the original Terminator. I still think it is a terrific film. Relentless in its oppressive tension, and always at the back of your mind, the inevitability of the Armageddon to come. And Arnie didn't have enough dialogue to ruin it. The two sequels were poor excuses for showing off with computers.

As a masterpiece of expressionist cinema, and just a great all round SF original, Fritz Lang's Metropolis is often ranked among the top ten all time movies. I love it, and you can see its influence in many of the films mentioned in previous posts on this thread.

Good film and book about religion and science.

Where do they meet?
