I was horrified to learn that little chef's management Do use staff tips to balance the books if there is a shortfall for that day. As a customer i pay the bill, then in good faith give a tip for good service, as many people do everyday, i dont expect it to end up back in the till, to cover any shortfalls that occure due to mistakes made by Management/Staff, as this then means that i payed more than the price on the menu. If little chef big wigs allow this pratice to occure then surely every customer has the right to know this before he/she gives a Tip. I have always believed that when i give a tip that the money is shared between the staff and not back to the owner. This maybe common pratice all over the country? but i know for one that i would never Tip knowing this. As a employee i would be angry to know that due to other peoples mistakes i would lose my Tips and then be allowed to make the same mistakes again and again, because it's okay for the Customers Tips (Giving in good Faith) to be used to cover up any shortfalls. As A Customer i feel connned out of my hard earned money making me think that im tipping the staff for the great service, but all im doing is paying more for the meal. Before i ever tip again i will find out who's pocket it's going in.
